First weekend with the HC40...

Recommended Posts

Well, I got my new toy mounted up and took her for a spin this weekend.

I can't believe how small and light this camera is. Compared to the JVC GR-5 I used a couple of times, this is almost like having nothing on the side of my head.

I spent two hours getting the helmet setup with the CamEyeII and mounting the L-bracket. I took it apart and integrated it into my Bonehead underneath the L-bracket.

Then I had a friend help me position the D-Box and mark it once I had the pic centered where I wanted it. From there I just drilled the mount holes and away I went.

I had no problems with it and my risers, and the picture quality is outstanding.

I'm a very happy Messican. B|

I'm about to buy a HC40 to take with me to singapore. Have you run into any probs with the camera as of yet? (I was going to get a PC109 but this forum eventually changed my mind).
The HC40 looks like an awesome camera.
Any feed back would be great. Your camera setup looks pretty cool too.B|

I've only jumped it one weekend, but no probs so far. I read that you didn't like the 109 because it requires the base to firewire....that's the same reason I didn't get that one.;)

So far this camera does everything I need it to.

You might also send a PM to RiggerRob, he's been jumping one on a hand-mount for some time now and seems to be really happy with his as well.

Kris, can you get at the sockets (firewire and composite) without taking the cam off the mount?
Cheers.

Nope, not if it's side-mounted on the left side of the helmet.:(

Also, another gotcha is that the HC series uses a new A/V cable that isn't compatible with the older ones out there. You'll need to make sure you bring yours with you if you want to dub via composite.

The tapes are bottom-loading as well.

Other than that, it's a great lil' cam.:)
