StevePhelps 0 #1 August 19, 2004 Help! I just did a tandem video tonight and about pull time the video turned green! Like a white out, but green. It stayed green during the filming of my descent.. I film a 360 before I shut it off. When I turned in on for the landing it was okay but went green again as they landed. I filmed a few seconds of other footage over the green part to see if it was the tape. That footage was fine. It has to be the camera (Sony TRV 19) Any clues??? I need a camera for this weekend -- I may have to buy another one. Many of Aultimate Electronics' cameras are on sale.. What would be a good one? ffejdraga 0 #2 August 19, 2004 Any chance that NightShot came on somehow..?? that is the only thing i could really think of...strange. good luck. jeff D-16906
quade 4 #3 August 19, 2004 Do a couple of frame grabs and post them. Since I assume you're familiar with what NightShot looks like, I'm also going to assume that's NOT it, but my guess right now is that you have a loose connection internally. Yes, the camera will have to go into the shop.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
StevePhelps 0 #4 August 19, 2004 Here is7 seconds of video that shows it better than a frame grab. http://www.skydivevideo.info/green.wmv
quade 4 #5 August 19, 2004 OH! That -IS- NightShot! You have something wrong with the switch -- maybe loose. You -might- be able to wiggle-jiggle it and use some gaff tape on it to get it to stop doing that, but if not it'll still have to go into the shop, but should be an easy fix for them.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
StevePhelps 0 #6 August 19, 2004 Thanks -- I'll take it in tomorrow, but what about this weekend?? We have 15 tandems!!!
quade 4 #7 August 19, 2004 Didja try the wiggle-jiggle or do you just not want to take -any- chances? I mean, that's totally valid. You -are- getting paid for your work.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
StevePhelps 0 #8 August 19, 2004 It "feels" real solid - switch -- The problem is I can't get it to repeat (the green image) with videos I've taken on the ground.
StevePhelps 0 #9 August 19, 2004 well, actually, if I switch it to night video then it is green, but as you can see from my video -- the green went TOTALLY green, not just slightly green as it does when filmed with night video switch on.
masher 1 #10 August 19, 2004 Maybe it's the combination of nightshot and bright sunlight that's overloading your CCD and making it really green. It's happened on a couple of handicam videos. The button gets turned on as you're putting the camera in the pouch...-- Arching is overrated - Marlies
StevePhelps 0 #11 August 19, 2004 The outer switch would be impossible to turn on/off without knowing. It was definetly off --- but when checking the inner menu I discovered the N.S. was clicked "on" -- I have no clue how THAT happened!! I put it on "off" and I will hope for the best Saturday. Most likely will make a test jump early that AM
quade 4 #12 August 19, 2004 I'm pretty sure (99.99%) that what you're looking at is an intermittent (sometimes on, sometimes off) NightShot switch issue. When NightShot is on in daylight, it looks -exactly- like what your clip showed. Wait until tomorrow during the daylight hours and check it out yourself -- you'll see what I mean. It's possible, that you bumped the switch just a little while puttting in its bracket or maybe a piece of foam was rubbing up against it or anyone of a dozen reasons. Take a good hard look at the switch. Oh and as to the menu setting for the NightShot light . . . all that does is turn on a couple of IR LEDs on the front of your camera when the NightShot switch is on. The menu setting -shouldn't- have a caused your problem, but turning it OFF couldn't hurt.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

StevePhelps 0 #14 August 19, 2004 The techies at Ultimate Electronics where I bought the camera say it is the N.S. as well, But the switch is okay -- They "figure" the wind may have caused it?? Whuffos answer to all camera problems when skydiving. However, they may be right, but how do I fix? Gaffers tape? They don't make a condom to fit the TRV 19. Their main man thinks it was a fluke. Easy to say when you aren't the one charging someone. They have a PC 101 for $750 -- Should I buy it?
YahooLV 0 #15 August 19, 2004 Ask them how much time is on the drum. This will tell you about how long the camera has been in use. If it seems like a low timer, I'd say, go for it. (PC750) Stuck nightshot switch...just make sure to double check. Mybe it was in between "clicks". If ya want to tape it.OKhttp://www.curtisglennphotography.com
