Chrissay 0 #1 August 23, 2004 I'm looking to purchase a DV deck for our video concession at the DZ. I really don't know a thing about them. Does anyone have any experience with them? What brand is the best? Best place to purchase it from? It looks like the prices range from $600-$1000, I'm just looking for a simple deck, any suggestions? thanks! edited for spelling
nacmacfeegle 0 #2 August 23, 2004 Hi Chrissay, What do you mean by a "DV deck"? A mixing desk with DV or firewire input? Never seen or heard of one (not for 'prosumer' use anyways). Plenty of analogue mixing decks out there. Or are you after a specific DV tape deck, eg a high end VCR? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Chrissay 0 #3 August 23, 2004 Sorry, I wasn't very specific and I don't know much about them! We need it for video editting, so something with firewire inputs. We edit on Adobe Premier and right now we just use a camera to dub the video onto VHS, but I'm afraid frequent use of the ports is going to damage the camera. edited to add: and the camera is mine that we use and I would like to actually jump it and not have it used for editting! You'll still have to pop the tape out of the camera flier's cam. Anyways I use a Sony miniDV deck like this, its a GV-D300, I don't think they make them anymore, but its great. Just about any camera would serve the purpose, somebody somewhere must have a cam that no longer works as a cam but may still serve as a 'target deck' for you. I have one, an old PC7 but its the wrong format (PAL)-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. You can just buy an extra camera for a couple hundred dollars, which should last quite a long time if you just leave it hooked up and use it for dubbing. The second option is to get a consumer grade DV deck. They mostly come as an SVHS/DV combo. The downside is that you won't get much more life out of it than buying an extra camera, and its more expensive. The third option is to buy a professional grade DVCam deck. They are durable as hell, and are fully timecode equiped. They are more pricey, probably over $1,000. You could probably get one from B&H for between 1-2,000. Check out their website. You would definately get the most durability out of one of these, but if you don't want to spend the $, I'd just get cheap camera.
