sasteam 0 #1 August 25, 2004 Anyone know of a source for custom made cables that can create or modify one of these cables so that the 10-pin connection to the camcorder is low profile and rests at a right angle? Sony says they don't sell right angle A/V cables nor are they able to recommend a source. ---------------------------------------------------------- Customer - 08/24/2004 08:19 AM Do you have or know of a source for a right-angle equivalent to the VMC-15FS A/V cable described below? I'd like such a cable that has a low-profile (right-angle) connector (for the end of the cable which connects to the camcorder - this is the 10-pin connector). mr2mk1g 10 #2 August 25, 2004 Do you want the S-video cable or the 3.5mm 4-pole to phono plug (yellow jack)? The both do the same job... I can give you a link to the 4-pole, but I'd be surprised if you can find a low profile s-video plug.
nacmacfeegle 0 #3 August 25, 2004 Matt, the new Sony cams have the Svideo and composites combined into an oddball 10 pin connector. As Sasteam is finding out, this is a non standard fitting and less than low profile. Additionally I think the ports are on the RHS of the cam, which means if you left side mount it, you have to dismantle the setup to dub, or poke a hole in the helmet to access the port. If you right side mount it you lose the function of the LCD screen. I have holes cut in my Gath side mount to access zoom etc, so maybe this is a solution for Sasteam... Hope this makes sense.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. mr2mk1g 10 #4 August 25, 2004 Oh, of course - the dreaded D-connector... that's what you meant by a "10 pin connector". Nope - there's nothing out there that I've seen and of course they've ripped all the other connectivity out of the cameras. I know people have had problems actually finding straight ones, never mind a low profile connector. I'm guessing you're gonna be out of luck given the bulk of the plug design. It might be possible to buy one cheap, strip it down to just the wire then shrink tube it onto a 90 deg plug...
sasteam 0 #5 August 27, 2004 I wanted this specifically for a bulletcam hookup. Yeah, I guess I'm going to try my hand at modifying an existing cable. They're around $20. sasteam 0 #6 September 20, 2004 Not a vendor recommendation but I was able to get two straight cables from CDW (http://www.cdw.com, which used to be Computer Discount Wharehouse) at $22.57 a piece. They were on backorder but shipped in about two weeks from the time I placed the order.Crazy Ivan and the Crew (2005-2006) Team Insane (2004-2005) Insane in the Airplane (2003-2004)
