Pendejo 0 #1 September 28, 2004 I know this is a gear question but I really want the video peoples take on the flat top narrow. Is there anyone out there that has had good (or bad) experiences with this helmet? Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!! LouDiamond 1 #2 September 28, 2004 Well the general consensus that I have heard is that most end up wishing they had gotten the FTP instead. Having the extra available room always seems to be better than not having room when you want to add or reconfigure something later on down the road."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
Miami 0 #3 September 28, 2004 QuoteI know this is a gear question but I really want the video peoples take on the flat top narrow. Is there anyone out there that has had good (or bad) experiences with this helmet? I've been very, very happy with my FTN. I have a FTN as my personal camera set up and a FTP at work. The FTN is an excellent camera helmet for those who know they only want a single camera on top and a front mounted still camera. The FTN takes about a half a pound off of the weight compared to a FTP with identical equipment attached. The FTN is also 50 buck cheaper. Hope this helps...Miami
quade 4 #4 September 28, 2004 Ok, I have no actual review to offer since I've never used one, but it seems to me that since the Flat-Top Pro is only $50 more but offers quite a bit more long term flexibility in terms of real estate, that's the one I'd probably buy if I needed another helmet right now.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Brains 2 #5 September 28, 2004 I fly a ft-narrow. For the cost difference, i wish NOW that i had gone ahead and bought the pro. At the time, i was(am) still learning to fly on my head and thought it would be easier to do so without the large flat plate on top. Shows what i knew(know) about that shit. Now i fly on my belly and only have room on top for one cam. If i had it to do all over again i would just spend the extra $50 and get the pro. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
diablopilot 2 #6 September 28, 2004 The FTP is the way to go. Sure it's $50 more expensive, but it's got twice the space up top giving you WAY more flexability, and it's got a REMOVABLE top plate, letting you a) change plates (and setups) easily if you wanted to run multiples setups, and b) lets you replace the plate once you've turned it into swiss cheese withmultiple setup changes. I'm on my 3rd and 4th plates now.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
lewmonst 0 #7 September 29, 2004 I'm pretty happy with my FTN. I have been able to jump it with my 10D on front and a pc330 in a dbox on top next to my 550 flash. Most of the time I am just filming tandems and aff and I only have a 35mm still on front and the video on top. I like the noticeable weight difference between it and the FTP. I do think it matters after doing 20+ video jumps a week (on my girly neck). However, if you have a strong neck already and are not at all concerned about the weight on top, you might as well get the FTP. Like everyone else has said, you can't go wrong with more real estate and more options for changing your setup. There are times, although rare, that I wish I'd had a full blown FTP. If you are only going to shoot tandems and don't plan on setting up a flash or multiple video cameras, the FTN is a great choice. What do you plan on shooting? peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
Zee 0 #8 September 29, 2004 I've never tried the FTN but I'm pretty happy with my FTP. It's my second one and to be honest, I've never tried anything that fits quite so well and the weight doesn't really bother me much anymore. It's nice to be able to have several different set-ups. I know several guys who have made separate mounting plates for multiple video/still/flash set-ups. When they want to go film tandems, they just pull off one plate and screw on another. BoneHead makes an awesome helmet and I'm sure you won't go wrong either way. Guess it's all a matter of how much crap you feel like strapping to yer skull..... Pendejo 0 #9 September 29, 2004 I'll be shooting mostly tandems and AFF. The money difference is so small that it is not relevant. I just don't know when I will be flying with more than one video camera at a time on my head. I have made around 500 video jumps with just one video camera up top at a time. DaGimp 0 #10 September 30, 2004 i have jumped a FTN for the past year.....and it is set up with a video on top and a still on front....now im looking into putting a 550 flash on aswell but i dont have the space.....so i am buying a FTP with a shark fin so i can mount all three on top to center the weight.......as far as available space on a camera helmet......its better to have and not need then to need and not have."Professor of Pimpology"~~~Bolas
