Remote Digital Cam Setup vs Mini Helmet Cam

Recommended Posts

Hey,
Anyone out there using any of the "lipstick" type camera setups with the digital camera in a pouch with the remote lens on the helmet? If so, how is the video by comparison to a full helmet mounted cam? I have seen two on the market that claim good results, reduced helmet weight and significant reduction in possible entanglement. I am interested in a good setup. I currently have a TRV 330 Sony and wonder if it is compatible with one of the remote designs. It has a LANC port and camera/vcr capability. Would appreciate any info out there or ideas from some who have been down this road.

Thanks,

Hey! I have a bullet cam set up for sale with a brand new CamEye sport for the pouch. All lenses included. This set up is mint. I used it some and found the video quality to be as good as most small cameras. Reason for selling is that I originally bought it to do Birdman stuff but carrying the pouch on front, etc would just cut down on aerodynamics and was cumbersome and would require to many alterations to my suit for that purpose, for my use. I shoot tandems and use a digital still often so don't mind the extra camera on top. It only has about 10 jumps on everything. Will sell reasonable. If you are interested just contact me here ryder@glinx.com . You must have the ability to record from a vcr to your camera. (basically plug it in to your camera) I am not familiar with your model. If you can do that then you will be ok.

hey

I have a bulletcam set-up too and found it work just fine with my S3.

I have a Sony PC105, though, quite small, so I pack the hip-bag really small and wear it under my suit, across my chest, so the camera etc sits under my left armpit, this way nothing sticks out from the suit, you can mount the bulletcam on your left hand, foot, helmet, wherever and it didn't inhibit my arm movements.

not real comfortable on the plane, though...

just my 2 cents

cheers

A friend of mine jumps a system like this I would say the quality is as good as most systems. The week link, in his case, seems to be the recording camera, carried in a pouch under his wingsuit on the chest.

Because of the wire you are trading "wrisk of entanglement" for hassle with a wire running up around your neck to a small bullet on your helmet. Sometimes the hassle just isn't worth it. Although he has gotten some nice footage just holding it in his hands and pointing it at the subject when up close.

Its a great tool for unusual angles and awkward mounting though, you can run the wire and tape the bullet anywhere. For regular jumps with camera I would stick with a good simple helmet system

Has anybody looked at other recorders other than a CamCorder? No point paying for a lens and CCD if you're going to use a bullet cam. I would think a portable DVR would be the perfect way to go. This product looks interesting, anyone have any experience with it? http://www.ffv.com/documents/MiniDVRProDataSheet.PDF

This thing is 3.5" W x 5.7" L x 1.2" D!!
