peevee 0 #1 October 1, 2004 I knew this day would come -- I lost my thumbscrew. I need this to fixate my camera in my D-box. Does anybody know where I can buy these screws? Thanks, pv.

Wrong forum really (shoulda posted in "photography"), but are you talking about the screw that goes into the bottom of your camera? Any photo shop will have that. PhreeZone 20 #5 October 1, 2004 A quick and crude solution is also to get a thumbscrew from a hardware store. It increases the snag factor, but can get you by.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
peevee 0 #6 October 1, 2004 Well, I tried 2 photo shops, and in both of them the people had no clue what I was talking about. They carry tripods and all that stuff, but that's not gonna work. I guess I'll have to go to the 'better' photo store. Thanks for the replies, guys! pv.

lewmonst 0 #8 October 1, 2004 I got in a pinch once and had to buy a tri-pod mount with the thumbscrew in it. It was only like $8 and I just broke off the plastic around the screw. peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
kaerock 1 #9 October 1, 2004 QuoteThanks for the profile info. Right, as we all know how thumbscrews are heavily dependant upon dropzone.com profiles. How much do thumbscrews usually cost anyways, I was thinking that it might be a good idea to have a few extras around. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
AndyMan 7 #10 October 1, 2004 Skydance photography will sell you a thumb-screw. http://www.pia.com/skydance/accessor.htm It'd be much cheaper if you can find a good camera store, or use a normal flat-head screw from a good hardware store. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. lewmonst 0 #11 October 2, 2004 You can also get the 1/4"-20 screw from B&H when they re-open. I've used that one, it's easy to tighten and loosen with a quarter if you don't have a big flathead handy. It's also a little lower profile than the nobby plastic ones, if you care about that. peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
ematteo 0 #12 October 2, 2004 1/4" - 20 refers to the thread spacing on the screw (1/4" diameter, 20 threads per inch). This will fit most any DV or still camera. You can buy 1/4" -20 screws / bolts in various lengths and with various heads at any hardware store. I went to Home Depot and got a few 1/4" -20, 3/8" length bolts w. hex heads. HD also sells plastic press-fit caps. Hammer the hex head into the cap and you have a good thumb-screw. FWIW, Peter, I went to the one in San Carlos. Good luck, Evan PS If you only find longer bolts, a Dremel tool w. grinder or cutoff wheel works to shorten them (use a vise and goggles:))

Or get a drinks bottle top (one with a wide neck works great) drill a wee hole in it, chuck in the bolt, and fill with epoxy, make a fistful at the same time. I've heard about the press fit caps but have never seen them, sounds like they would do the job as well.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
