Help with broken camera

Recommended Posts

I have a Sony TRV-19 with about 150-200 jumps on the camera. It's giving me trouble now. Every now and again the screen gets all blurry and green. Sometimes it works perfectly fine, but it likes to do this little trick on me a lot. Anybody have any idea what the problem is or how to get it fixed?

Cheers

Have you tried playing the tape in another camera? Are you sure what you're seeing is recorded on the tape or is it possible that the camera is simply playing back the tape incorrectly.

To -me- it doesn't look anything like dirty heads on a digital video camera.

My -guess- is that either something is wrong before the signal gets to the recorder section of the camera or there is something wrong after the signal comes off the tape and is being converted to analog.

Correct me if I'm wrong, these are frame grabs from the analog output?

One other possibility, is it possible that the night-shot switch is a bit loose and is intermittently making contact? Or maybe something in your set up is bumping up against it?

This has happened on multiple tapes so I know it's not just the tape. It seems to be a problem with the camera.

These are frame grabs. They look this way when played on the LCD screen on the camera, when sent to a VCR or when I play them on my computer.

There is a possibility of it being something to do with the night shot, but I have no clue how to fix that. I have checked the switch and it seems to be very secure. There isn't really anything that could be bumping it in the setup I have.

Any other ideas??

I'm getting to the point where I'd just like to get a new camera so I don't have to deal with it anymore.

Hey Adam, Q meant is it recording that image on the tape or is it your camera just showing that image. We can throw that tape in my trv19 Sunday and try it if you want.:)

Yes, I have an idea... you're not gonna like it though. I had a TRV19 and same thing happened to me -- I took it to the shop and we could not get it to repeat itself. I had an idea what it was, but ...

well, another 10 jumps and it did it again. It most likely is the night switch on the side. My switch was fine, but something (wind?) was causing the internal stuff to malfunction and switch on the night switch even when the switch was not selected. Eventually I sold it on Ebay as a ground camera -- it never did it when used on the ground. Good luck!
