Full Cover Camera Helmet?

Recommended Posts

Who makes full cover camera helmets besides Skysystems? I'm setting up a PC350 for demo jumps and need full cover for interior microphone wind-noise protection. Thanks. MS

Ok. I'll take that as a "nobody." Then can anybody offer any feed back on the Sidewinder. I hear they've quit making them. ParaGear still lists them. Assume I can find one somewhere. Or do I just need to go custom from the ground up ... so to speak?

About a year ago you could still buy Sidewider 2 from square one. It was my understanding that skysystems was trying to decide if they wanted to stop making them or not so they are just making them for Square one( when I checked they ran $495.00).
I have one and love it. You are limited in without alot of modification you can only fit a video camera (no still), but other than that they are great. For a ring sight I ended up taping a box outline on the visor and using that.

What do you mean by 'full cover'

Something like this by 2k composites?
http://www.2kcomposites.com/
RAWA can't find a link but they are popular,
Bonehead http://www.boneheadcomposites.com/and Cookie http://www.cookiecomposites.com/, all make a range of fine boxes for most popular cameras, which can then be mounted to just about any helmet, but are designed to fit their own ranges.

If your only wory is wind noise, what about muffling the on-board mic, or a camera condom.
Wind noise will be inevitable, why is it an issue to you?
You can always leave the audio jacks disconnected during playback, and turn down the on-board speakers.

Full-cover = full faced. Enclosed, in other words. The boom microphone is the same used by auto racers for 2-way com. with their pit crews. I often speak to the audience, even in freefall. The boom and the mike need to be very stationary and protected from wind blast and noise. Looks like we'll have to customize something.

Okay, I see what you mean, sorry.:)I thought you were looking for an old headhunter type with the big integral camera enclosure.

Thinking out of the box, throat mike with a neoprene ski neck gaitor any use?

Skysystems just picked up to make the Sidewinder again. That's why it is listed in the newest Paragear catalogue. It's a little bit weird as they don't really produce a mass of them, but if you order one you get it. Probably because not that many people are lookning for a full face camera helmet. I think that is the only available full face video helmet right now - beside custom made helmets.
You should probably look for people who are able to make these custom made ones as you can then get all the stuff you want build in - and normally you stay below $ 500.

Isn’t it Dave Stanfield at skydive san marcos?? who makes those nice Skypimp helmets? I’ve seen a few photos of helmets he’s designed – they look good and you hear nothing but good about them if you ask around. He’s done some pretty unusual designs to order including some with jaw protection/full face designs IIRC, try giving him a call - it looks like he's in your neck of the woods.
