Sidewinder camera?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a Sidewinder helmet and have no clue about what kind of camera I need to buy for it. Any suggestions?
Before you guys point it out. I only have 131 jumps and I don't plan on flying this camera till spring, by then I will have the 200 jumps needed. I just want to get it set up for then.

IIRC the Sidewinder camera box was built to each specific camera so your helmet will only accept the model it was built for or cameras very similar in size/shape.

The problem is, they made boxes for many different cameras so there's no real telling which one yours was designed to take. Do you know what went in there originally?

Your best bet is to simply take it to the DZ or camera shop and literally try a number of camera's in the box to see which fits. You can then shop with that information in mind.

You can make most Sony PC-xxx camera's fit in a Sidewinder. Mine was made for a PC-1. When I upgraded to a PC-105, I had to do a little modifying to get it to fit. I basically cut off the old mounting bracket, fashioned a new L-bracket and mounted it.

Regarding your experience level...... search this forum. There's lots of talk about # of jumps and camera flying. Jumping a Sidewinder is less treacherous than top mounted cameras which may be more prone to snagging lines, pilot chutes etc.
