indyz 1 #1 November 23, 2004 I've been on the lookout for a replacement lens for my Digital Rebel pretty much since I got the thing. The lack of a "real" focus ring on the kit lens is driving me nuts. So I was flipping through my new B&H catalog today and I noticed this Sigma. The price is right, Sigma seems to have a good reputation, and it's got the range to match my .43 and .5 video lenses. There are only a couple of things holding me back: 1) It won't work with a 35mm camera if and when I buy one, and mainly 2) I searched the forum and didn't find anybody else using one and I hate being a guinea pig. So, has anybody used one in freefall? Or even just tried one out on the ground?
StevePhelps 0 #2 November 23, 2004 I thought I read several threads about SIGMA lenses causing error problems on Canon cameras. Maybe I'm wrong -- better do a search for 'sigma and canon'
indyz 1 #3 November 23, 2004 I saw those threads. As far as I know the problem is an electronics issue caused by combining older lenses with newer cameras. I found a store selling their own custom Digital Rebel kit consisting of the body and this Sigma lens, so it seems like a good bet that they work together. Maybe I'm wrong -- better do a search for 'sigma and canon' This problem only exists with older lenses. Newer ones work fine. That said, there's no guarantee that this lens won't work with a future cannon camera... I have no problem buying Sigma lenses. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. dragon2 2 #5 November 23, 2004 I got one as a "kit" lens with my Nikon D70. Lens is okay-ish, I think it performs better then the crap kit lens that came with my 300D but then maybe the D70 is just a better camera The lens hasn't been in freefall yet because I haven't gotten around to fixing the infrared remote thingy for the D70 yet. On the ground, well, you get what you pay for... A fixed lens would of course be much better but also too expensive for me right now. This one works, in't too big/heavy and gets me a ~27 mm angle. I haven't had the time to post pictures on my website lately (uh make that over half a year ) but I'll be posting some swoop pics taken from inside the course with this lens later on (promise....) ciel bleu, Saskia
