Ulead mediastudio pro 7 - capture problems

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am trying to capture footage from a PC-109 using MediaStudio Pro7, I am using the capture software that comes with it, the problem I am having is that most of the options under the setup menu are greyed out. Eg: Video Format, Audio Format, MPEG Settings, etc etc.... I am using Firewire to connect the camcorder to the PC.

Has anybody seen this before or know why its doing it?

Thanks,

M.J

I had most of those settings configured.. 'device control' and 'capture plugin' etc etc.. I can capture video how it is at the moment but I can't change the quality settings etc etc..

Also I am using, MediaStudio7 not VideoStudio,

"I can capture video how it is at the moment but I can't change the quality settings etc etc.. "

I'm pretty sure you will be stuck with the option of either NTSCor PAL at full DV resolution if you are capturing through a standard Firewire interface.
Any image altering, etc will have to be done 'offline'.

Other dedicated hardware capture devices may be able to do this resample in real time, eg I think I can capture lower quality settings with my old analogue capture card, but never really saw the reason......

I'm assuming you have hard drive issues for your edit?
If not, just capture and edit at full quality, then render down once all the chopping is done.
If you choose this route, you will have to alter your project output settings.

Maybe thats true.. The captured video doesn't look as good quality as whats playing straight off the camera though..I will have another look at it tonight.. This is my first time doing this so have to just figure it out as I go along.

Thanks for the help

It always does this CODEC isn't really optimised for showing video via computers, try this as a litmus test, capture some video, do some straight cuts and maybe a coiuple of fades etc, then hose it back onto the cam and check the quality. It should be exactly the same as the raw footage, no visible degradation.
On my setup I can keep a tv hooked up to the camera/minDV deck, pooter conected via firewire, I normally watch all my edits on the TV as opposed to the pooter screen.

This arrangement certainly works with all the versions of Premiere I have tried, and my favourite 'targets' (a Sony minidv deck-D300, and a sony PC7 with DV inputs enabled) dunno about MSP, but I'd hazard a guess it is possible.

Thanks, you are right. It is the same quality.. I tried it.. The thing is it only captures for 10 seconds then it stops.. I think its in the MPEG settings to set the capture length but those are greyed out. I got tired of messing around with it and ended up using Movie Maker 2 from XP SP2 to capture what I needed.. It worked fine..

Thanks
