Spanishflea 0 #1 April 17, 2003 Hi there, I plan to donwsize and I have been flying a Sabre 170 for 350 (I have a total of 415), with a wingload of 1,14. I was wondering if stepping into a Crossfire2 139 would be too much for me at the moment. The other options that I am thinking about are a Safire2 139 or a Sabre2 135, but Would I get bored really soon with those? Some advises??? skyboyblue 0 #2 April 17, 2003 Someone asked me that same question last week. Don't know your flying skills but this is what I said to him. Don't make that big of leap in performance and decrease in square ft. at at the same time. I went from a 170 diablo to 150 stilleto and then a 149 crossfire and that was plenty much. I wanted a 139 but was talked out of it by one of the elsinore guys. That's a huge leap in two different catergories and that could equal disaster. stay safe. sbb

trigger 0 #4 April 17, 2003 It's been said before.DEMO..I'd suggest trying something like a Sabre2 150.. first. you'll be suprised after a 170+ you don't need the aggro going from square to elliptical as well as downsizing..Alternately try and demo a similar size elliptical to your present canopy...CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER. freeflyz 0 #5 April 17, 2003 The question here is have you flown that canopy to it's limit?

Fly Kaotik I went from a sabre 170 to a safire 149, then a Xfire 139.... was a pretty good progression, I'd suggest something along that line.

sarge 0 #8 April 18, 2003 Used to be that when people asked this type of question, i'd be inclined to say, "WTF, go for it! " But what I've learned over time is that so many jumpers are liking what they see/hear about another canopy. (especially at about downsize time) but they have no experience whipping the shit out of their current wing? ...why is that? As I tested out other canopies I came aware of charachteristics that worked for me and some that didn't. Hey, we have only the benefit of our own personal experiences anyway, yeah? Most of all from experimenting was that I found there was still a lot I could still squeeze out of my current wing!!! Whatever, get the Crossfire, its very nice... but it won't be as much fun for many, many jumps as opposed to what you already have... If you don't get broken trying to make it as much fun... .-- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!
