kosanke 0 #1 January 13, 2005 I have a new pc350 and on a few occassions when i have rewound to the start of the tape, it fails to record or shows horizontal lines and remarks to a head cleaning. have you seen this before or do i have to send back to sony. this has happened on 3 of the last 10 jumps total on the camera. Thanks, Tom
PROGRESSIVE 0 #2 January 14, 2005 Listen to your camcorder. The heads are dirty as indicated. I took a Q-tip swab and a dab of rubbing alcohol and wiped it clean. The lines disappeared, and I was able to re-play my footage and record. I spoke to a sales rep at Inkleys, in Salt Lake. He didn't recommend this method of cleaning the heads, but rather purchasing the head cleaner that operates the same as a cassette tape. Its a dry method of cleaning the heads. If you use alcohol, wait a few seconds before playing the tape, otherwise the camcorder displays a tape error, or something of that nature. When my camera was acting up, I immediately thought of returning it, or taking it in for repairs. After cleaning the heads, it works great!
kosanke 0 #3 January 14, 2005 i have used a head cleaner. the 350 is new. i was wondering if on this or other pc's if you rewind to the beginning, if it somehow disturbs the head enough to register an error.
AggieDave 6 #4 January 14, 2005 Are you using quality tapes? i.e. Sony tapes?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
kosanke 0 #5 January 14, 2005 sony. me excellence 60 min tapes. i thought that going to the end will jar the heads. has that been the case in other pc models.
lewmonst 0 #6 January 14, 2005 How often do you re-use tapes? Some tapes can be re-used many times, some crap out after reusing just once or twice. Safest bet is to not reuse tapes, use only sony high quality tapes, try the head-cleaner tape, and if all that doesn't work, you might have to send it off to Sony. Same problem recently discussed in this thread. I immidiately thought the heads were out of alignment, forgetting how some people abuse tapes... peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
kosanke 0 #7 January 14, 2005 i just purchased the pc and have about 10 jumps on it with a few rewinds to the beginning. i have only used the sony tape. how many times can i go over old scans? thanks for all the help. Tom
lewmonst 0 #8 January 14, 2005 Did you buy the camera new or used? refurbished? from where/who? As for going over "old scans", i assume you mean recording over used tape, there is no magic number. When it stops working, try a new tape.http://www.exitshot.com

lewmonst 0 #10 January 14, 2005 Quotenew in box with full warranty good, then it should be an easy, quick fix, sent off to sony if all else fails. the hardest part is being without the camera for a week or so. peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
