Still Camera Switch

My tounge switch recently quit working and I purchased a new one. When I got it, it would make the camera keep firing. So I sent it back and got another one. Same thing. I started looking at it and noticed that the new ones are stereo plugs while my old one is a mono plug. I have the Canon Rebel G. Does anyone know if this is the problem or do I have another faulty switch. And if this is the problem are the mono plugs still made?
