Cut-away solution for Sidewinder

Recommended Posts

Send me some sort of sketch of the velcro closing system, and I'll probably be able to work something out.

I've been at a competition where the CCI (our equiv of ST&A) grounded the sidewinders because they had no cutaway, so we jury rigged something for them.

Unless your local rules absolutely require a cutaway, I wouldn't worry.

I mean, the Sidewinder is pretty much snag resistant, if it can't be snagged why fit a cutaway?

For example, you don't see cutaway systems on protecs with mounted radios, or on standard full face lids like Oxygns, Z1s etc, preclude the hazard and you might be able to preclude its mitigation.

Hi,
Basicly it is a Factory Diver. So it has the same type of velcro system as those.

According to the regulations here in Sweden I am allowed to jump this helmet as it is designed for camera jumping. But still there is a risk for snag and I whould be more comfortable knowing that I quickly can get out of it in case of emergancy.

It will also lower the risk of getting grounded when visiting a new dropzone or a buggie.

Does anyone have any experience rebuilding a Sidewinder or a FactoryDiver to use a "normal" chin-strap? Like on a Z1 for example.

This whould fell more secure and also allow me to build some sort of cut-away.

Z1 strap may feel more secure but in fact it's not :P. And no I can not imagine a cut-away sysytem with a Z1 strap. It's not only strap that holds the helmet on - there is also a bungee cord (which, in effect, acts the same way as velcro system on FD)
