BigM 2 #1 February 24, 2005 Does anyone use a stroboframe to mount your video camera to your helmet? What are the pluses and minuses for this? Obviously the camera is exposed (with no hard housing), but what else? I've seen a couple of people do it. Thanks- Jeff "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car." r2hubert 0 #2 February 24, 2005 I do use a stroboframe on my flattop for my HC85 and put the top part of the old bonehead shell on top. It's works good the only cons is that you have to unscrew the plate to change tapes. -- Renaud SMA #9 "Mind is like parachute. It only functions when it's open." wingnut 0 #4 February 24, 2005 when i get a FT i'm gona mount my video cmaer on top with my stills and will have video on stroboframe QR, still is geting a "L" bracket quick release from REALLY RIGHT STUFF.... and as said before having to unscrew for tape w is the only thing that would suck... i use a l bracket anyays so i'mnot worried about the diffrent level of protection.. other than hitting it on the top of the plane whileinside.. might get a roll cage for it though..... i like being able to use the lcd screen whileit is still atached to my helmet.... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"

I know a few people who do and they like the set-up very much. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

freekflyguy 0 #8 February 24, 2005 I have just set up my FTP with a DBox for my HC30 bolted direct to the plate as I have no need to remove the box. Prior to the DBox I used a strobo which was very good although with the HC 30 it doesnt sit absolutely level once tightened down. I have a 10D which I mount next to the DBox using a thumbscrew as the camera is too wide for the helmet. Once I get my 350D I will be using the Strobo or a Gold Member if I can get my buddies cheap enough. Pics of my set up can be seen here BuzzIt's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

PhreeZone 20 #10 February 24, 2005 The 350 is'nt a downgrade. Its a lateral move. You get a package thats smaller, lighter, same buffer and frame rate and boosts the res from 6.2 to 8.3mp. Plus the option to go to the EF-S lenses if so desired. The cost to swap will probally be less then $150 with how hot the digital SLR market is.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Thats spot on, the big thing for me is the weight issue. My FTP fully loaded with the 10D is pretty heavy, anywhere I can loose weight is a bonus. The increased resolution, faster processor and frame rate and functionality are added bonuses. As it happens I am a British Soldier serving in Germany, one of the benefits we have is tax free goods. That means if I get a good priuce for my 10D on Ebay the 350D shouldnt cost me a penny BuzzIt's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. pcalandra 0 #12 February 24, 2005 Can I ask why you mounted your still camera on top vs. the front of the FTP?
freekflyguy 0 #13 February 24, 2005 QuoteCan I ask why you mounted your still camera on top vs. the front of the FTP? I would rather have the weight centred on my head. The leverage of having the stills camera on the front would increase the strain on my neck. BuzzIt's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. jrcrackers 0 #14 February 25, 2005 I use one with a strap I put on before climb out. I use the strap because the base doesn't sit square on the vid base and cause it just cant hurt. unscewing the plate to change tape isn't a big deal to me, the trade off is worth it to me
Squeak 17 #15 February 25, 2005 Can someone post a pic of a stroboframe? The ones I know about are for land based uses, and I'm not sure they would be safe for skydiving (snag points and all that)You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS!
