Nataly 38 #1 March 7, 2005 Hi there. Just got hired working as a video editor and have actually very little experience .. We use Adobe Premiere and Pinnacle Studio 9. My boss uses Napster to get all his music, but for some reason it's all in .wav instead of .mp3--which both programs would accept. Any tips?"There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
mccordia 74 #2 March 7, 2005 If your Boss wants you to download music via Napster, he's not really taking the (to put it mild) legally smartest route... But when it comes to using music...neither .wav or .mp3 should be a problem...so it doesn't really matter which filetype you use (unless you are concerned with filesizes or minute differences in quality, but this is usualy not something to worry about)JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? PhreeZone 20 #3 March 7, 2005 Napster only has .mp3 format. WAV files are huge and would never be able to be downloaded.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
YahooLV 0 #4 March 7, 2005 When you download, save as mp3 format. It will work very easily.http://www.curtisglennphotography.com
bob.dino 1 #5 March 8, 2005 Napster is now legal. It shares nothing but a brand-name with its infamous predecessor. Alternatives: iTunes allofmp3.com <-- actually legal, and not going to rip off your cc details, despite being ridiculously cheap and based in Russia. Yes, those are all legal for personal use, but not for putting onto a commercial video.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
Nataly 38 #7 March 8, 2005 Yeah, he pays for copyrights. I thought Napster was in .mp3 format as well. I don't know, I guess one of the programs doesn't recognise it unless he converts to another format. Anyway, I think this job will be more like getting paid to learn to edit!! Can't complain! (All I've ever used is imovie on a friend's work computer--which was top of the line.. *sigh* it was so simple..)"There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
cbennettjr 0 #8 March 8, 2005 Quote Yes, those are all legal for personal use, but not for putting onto a commercial video. Even purchased CDs aren't legal to be used for reproduction and resale (as in tandem videos). You would have to contact the publisher for permission to use them professionally. I don't see them coming after you either way. Of course, your mileage may vary...
Nataly 38 #9 March 8, 2005 He pays for copyrights. There is a fee whereby he is allowed to use any music commercially. Anyway, it's none of my concern but it is legit. Thanks for the tips, by the way. I may seek everyone's wisdome again, as I anticipate being completely confused at some point!!! Hell, it's a new job and I'll learn.. But I am so happy I can reach so many people out there with experience. Apologies for the stupidity of the question--I do realise it's basic.. PhreeZone 20 #10 March 8, 2005 I would love to see how he's paying for the music rights. If they are cheap enough quite a few editors out there might love to pick up the same method to avoid issues.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Nataly 38 #11 March 9, 2005 Hmmmm.. I think it's a monthly fee.. I can ask, though."There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
freefli 2 #12 March 10, 2005 has anyone had any experience using win mx? it's a peer to peer program....
diverds 0 #13 March 10, 2005 I had bad luck with Win MX. The best P2P I've found to date is Lime Wire. No bundled spyware or adware like Kazaa, no pop-ups, faster downloads, better search results and it's free. Check it out at www.limewire.com Skydive Radio
freakydiver 0 #14 March 10, 2005 There is a huge difference between legal for listening purposes and legal for production purposes. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
freakydiver 0 #15 March 10, 2005 ANY? I have never heard of that. Can you ask him how he does that as I'm sure quite a few of us would be interested... Edit - yah what Phree said. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
