Yoshi 0 #1 April 23, 2003 does anyone know why there isnt a fold in the mini chest strap as a stop on the oddessey? I noticed this on mine when I got it a few weeks ago and I usuallu loosen mine once under canopy.... jsut wondering if there are any disadvantages from having a fold stop on the chest strap.. I dont like the though of it comming loose mid swoop and plopping out of my harness when I lean forward.. any thoughts?? I thik Ill have my rigger put the fold in... -yoshi_________________________________________ this space for rent.
Hooknswoop 19 #2 April 23, 2003 The type 17 webbing, (same material mini-risersare made of), is thick plus doubled. The buckle isn't all that big. Loose ends of harness webbing should be doubled back and sewn to prevent it from slipping though, but with mini chest straps, it isn't necessary. Some people un-do their chest straps under canopy. I figure as long as there isn't tension on it, lossening it further won't make any difference. Putting the fold in it may make it very diffficult to thread and un-thread. Samurai136 0 #3 April 24, 2003 In addition to Hook's observation about the webbing and the buckle size, my experience w/ the Odyssey is that the strap is too long to worry about it falling out. I usually loosen the chest strap as wide as the yolk will allow and there is still 6" (guessing) of chest strap from the end to the buckle. Once the chest strap is loosened, it is effectively unloaded and wouldn't tend to loosen any further. Ken"Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
katiebear21 0 #4 April 24, 2003 Derek Thomas puts the webbing retainer on the short side where the buckle and then secures the slack of the strap in an S-Fold configuration. Doesn't require the "stop". Once under canopy, you just pull the S-Fold out and loosen your strap. Because it is so long, you don't have to worry about it coming undone. The thick-lipped floating metal bar on the "buckle" will stop the strap from pulling free - especially when you lean forward and put pressure on it. Stacy 0 #5 April 24, 2003 what katie said. I just double mine over on the opposite side. stays nice and neat and is easy to get undone.
webracer 0 #6 April 24, 2003 I don't particularly like the lack of a sewback on the chest strap either, but it is a fact of life (with that rig). The chest strap is some 4-6 inches longer than a standard strap, and I loosen it all the way under canopy. I cannot get it to come out of the buckle unless I use two hands and pull it out (under canopy). You just have to retrain your mind to accept it.Troy I am now free to exercise my downward mobility. Yoshi 0 #7 April 24, 2003 thanks for all the comments.. I guess I didnt realize that it was thicker material than the chest strap on my alst rig.. I knew it was longer, but i wasnt sure (since I havent jumped it yet) how it would be under canopy.... I guess Ill see tomarrow or sat. -yoshi_________________________________________ this space for rent.
Watcher 0 #8 April 24, 2003 Unless you ask for type 8 instead of type 17. But both are significantly lnoger than older javelins. That was the reason I opted for type 8 so I have have the stop sewed in. --Jonathan Bartlett D-24876 AFF-I
pringles 0 #9 April 25, 2003 I don't think that the type 8 is an option if you got chest rings though. I could be wrong. matt Matt Davies
