pcalandra 0 #1 May 1, 2005 What are you using to carry your FTP in? Is there any reasonable alternative to the large Pelican cases? Ideally I'd like to leave my still camera and flash mounted as well as the DBox so I can just pull it out and be ready to go. I'd appreciate any and all suggestions. If you have a photo of your setup & can post it, I'd appreciate it. Pat
newshooter12 0 #2 May 1, 2005 hi pat... not that i fly camera yet, but i just saw some nice bags at EMS this afternoon that may accomidate your gear along with some foam padding/dividers and i was wondering how they'd work out for skydiving. unfortunately the twice-a-year 20% off sale was thurs-sat matt
pcalandra 0 #3 May 3, 2005 Any other suggestions? Are you all using Pelican cases or just throwing your helmets in a gear bag or something
vdschoor 0 #4 May 3, 2005 QuoteAny other suggestions? Are you all using Pelican cases or just throwing your helmets in a gear bag or something I just wear it wherever I go.. that way if there's a video moment, all you have to do is turn on the camera instead of having to go into your pelican case and get it all ready to go.. More seriously though.. I just carry it.. not in a case or bag or anything.. I'm still looking for a good solution..
AndyMan 7 #5 May 3, 2005 Hi Pat. I just carry mine the old fasioned way - I take the cameras off and carry it by the chin cup. I haven't found a good solution that will take a FTP with a top mounted dbox. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
ltdiver 3 #6 May 4, 2005 QuoteI just wear it wherever I go.. ...that way if the airlines try and count it as one of your carry-on bags, you can just smile and point to their paperwork which says that you are allowed to have one carry-on, one personal item, -and- a hat! Seriously! :^) ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
CTSkydiver 0 #7 May 4, 2005 I carry mine (FTN with TRV-D-Box and front-mounted still) with the rest of my skydiving gear in an inexpensive plastic (footlocker-sized) container from Wal-mart, carefully packed away with DZ t-shirts and jumpsuits folded just right to accommodate it. Poor man's solution, but it travels pretty well (assuming you travel by car and don't need to check it).
jimmytavino 16 #8 May 4, 2005 ...is there any chance it might fit in a bowling ball bag...??? seriously...Upright,, with the cameras on top.. and some foam padding inserted as needed??? or is the FTP too wide???? skydive softly, skydive often, skydive with friends my avatar.... by pcalandra
StevePhelps 0 #9 May 4, 2005 I keep my Optic and both cameras along with lots of other stuff in a hard plastic tool box -- about two feet long and 18 inches high. I'll let you know if the FTN fits it when it arrives in a couple of weeks.
Brains 2 #10 May 4, 2005 I take my cameras off and keep them in a pelican. My helmet, FTN with top mounted d-box, goes in my rolling gear bag. I put it in with my suits etc. for some extra padding. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
pcalandra 0 #11 May 5, 2005 Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming. I used to carry my home-made helmet in an old Portbrace carrying case, they make cordura cases and bags used primarily for the professional video market, Unfortunately the FTP now measures 10" wide x 18" tall x 17" front to back (from the front of the lens to the bone) and has outgrown that old case ....... I've looked at several large tool-box type cases that won't work and really want a "hard case" of some sort to get my camera gear back and forth to the DZ safely. I'm not really concerned about air travel, I just need to throw it in my truck or car & go! It's not that I'm a cheap SOB, I can actually buy the Pelican case at cost, I was just really looking for a more cost effective alternative. I'd really like to use that money for some other camera toys or a new camera suit Pat
