windinmyface 0 #1 August 15, 2005 My Rebel XT displays "Err CF" when I turn it on. Attempting to reformat the card through the camera menu displays "Err 99". Err 99 appears to be a cach-all error message when the problem is unknown. Canon says to re-install the battery, but no luck with that. I've also tried to reformat the card with he Canon software while the card is in the camera, and with the Rescue software that came with the card. In both cases, the software cannot detect the card. The cards is a Lexar 80x 1GB with WA. I suspect that the problem was caused by the battery going dead while the camera was still turned on. It looks like the card is hosed with no way to recover. Anyone have any ideas on how to rescue this thing? ----- I am Dyslexia of Borg, futility is resistant, your ass will be laminated.
indyz 1 #2 August 16, 2005 Inspect the card slot and the card itself to make sure that no pins are bent or broken. If everything looks good, try the card in a different reader or camera. Try a different card in your camera. If there is no physical problem (damaged pins) and the card works in a computer or a different camera, then your camera might be borked. If a different card works in the camera, or your card doesn't work in another camera, then the card is probably shot.
Faber 0 #3 August 16, 2005 i had a similar problem to my card, same model I took out the card and battery from the cam, then replaced it,turned the cam on,into the menu and format. It then worked, however some pics after that were recorded as bad pics, which i had to delete aswell. if that dont work and you have a card reader in your PC you could try emty the card from there... as said i got my card back in working order after a similar erro. Today i have no problems whith the card. i now make sure to format the card each time i have emtyed it from pics... hope it helps Stay safe Stefan Faber
windinmyface 0 #4 August 16, 2005 Thanks for the suggestions. The card doesn't work in another camera or in a card reader. The camera works fine with another card. The card just will not be recognized by any device I have tried so far. ----- I am Dyslexia of Borg, futility is resistant, your ass will be laminated. Peter_Panski 0 #5 August 16, 2005 Hi. I lost all the pictures both on Lexar 1 gig 80x and on Ipq 1 gig... There is a software problem on certain serial models of the CF cards. Lexar will give you a new card ASAP. They have good service. Dont know about others but I got also a new card instead of Ipq. The problem appears if you clic on the preview button while the card is still buissy (red light)...then you can say goodbye to your best pictures ever (ofcorse it was when it happend to me ;-) Here are some links... http://www.lexar.com/support/cust_advisory.html http://store.lexar.com/firmware/ Good LuckTURN ON - TUNE IN - DROP OUT
