pope 0 #2 August 17, 2005 I'm thinking iMovie or PC equivalent if there is one.
Dokeman 0 #3 August 17, 2005 i would like to know what everyone else is using also. And how long it takes for them to edit/burn.
MB38 0 #4 August 18, 2005 If you're very new to editing, go with iMovie. It's the easiest app to get used to and it's incredibly easy to learn. Just sit in on a class for it at your local Apple store... the classes are free. After that, move up to Final Cut Express ($299) and eventually to Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Studio ($999 or $1,299, respectively). Check them all out: http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/ http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/ http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/ iMovie WILL be the easiest and fastest to use. Edit quickly, throwing in a few titles and transitions... cutting out the boring crap and dropping in some music... cool. Press the "Send to iDVD" button and it'll automatically dump your project into iDVD and compress it in the background. You can customize the menu system to your liking [you can even make a custom theme for your dropzone... so everybody gets the same menu!] and burn in no time flat. It's really difficult to envision just how easy using the iLife apps is until you sit down and use them.I really don't know what I'm talking about. I have heard that I DVD burns have compatability issues with -R, a more acceptable format? My problem is that Ive been editing linear with a ave 7 for 10 years and I like the ability to crossfade between source 2 and freeze to the beat on the fly. Ive tried I movie to do this and I find myself tinkering around so much with audio and video fade effects that it is taking me 45 minutes to do anything professional. Any other opinions? josh
 Dokeman 0 #6 August 19, 2005 I have been using pinnacle and can do a pretty quick job, but the end result isnt that good. If I sit down and spend extra time doing it right, and include slow motion of the exit and deployment, and some other stuff, it ends up taking forever. Not to mention I then have to wait forever for it to render and then burn. Does anyone know of a good PC alternative. Something that dosent take 30 minutes to render and burn. I dont have a mac. Then we export to Adobe Encore where we burn it, that takes about another 10 minutes, so 20 minutes total. We run 3 computers to keep up with the videographers
 skydiveoc 0 #8 August 22, 2005 QuoteWe do all of our editing in Adobe Premier, that takes about 10 minutes including capture time. Yes, we have a few different templates setup so we just cut up the footage and drop it in the template. Every video has a leader, plane pulling up, plane taking off, altimeter shots, we put cross dissolves inbetween every cut. We also slowmo the exit, opening and freeze fame the 'big thumbs up' at the end when they land. Footage we drop in includes, ground interview, walking to the plane, in plane interview, exit/freefall/opening and canopy/landing footage. We have 3 computers setup that are totally dedicated to editing, they are stripped of everything else so they run really efficiently. We have invested a lot of money into doing this so there are definatley cheaper ways to go about doing this, but this is the way we have chosen.
