mysty429 0 #1 September 13, 2005 I am very excited to have captured my first weekend of skydiving on my new Sony HC-21 handycam, but now I need to know the best way to get it to a useable computer format so I can email it to the buddies I jumped with. I have the camcorder and USB hookup with me. Do I need the seemingly crappy Sony pic software to upload a movie? I am completely new to this so sorry for a very likely stupid question, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.-Taylor "Can't plan fantastic!!!!!" nate_1979 9 #2 September 13, 2005 Your going to want to use Firewire vs. USB for starters And I would get my hands on Adobe Premier or Pinnacle Studio, or some other movie editing software to pull it from the camera. kosanke 0 #3 September 13, 2005 you're right. i don't like sony's video version either. if you had windows xp as i do, you might try the movie maker program that is built in. bring the program onto your desktop and start it up.when the camera is plugged in,with the viewfinder on the camera set to play/edit, start and just click start capturefor the program. i have a sony pc350 that works great with it. once it's downloaded, you can edit and email. a sony rep told me to use windows instead of their program. hope this helps. mysty429 0 #9 September 14, 2005 I realize that jumping with a camera is dangerous when done incorrectly. This is why I respect and listen to the many mentors I have at my home DZ. Just like any dangerous sport, I feel the final decision should be left to the one that is jumping, thus I am beginning to become annoyed with the comments that usually come on forums saying "All youngsters new to the sport should read about people dying and jump solo or with an instructor for atleast 500 million jumps". I respect this sport a lot and all of you that help me on a daily basis, but some things just never stop with this sport. As a well experienced Big Wall climber and mentor to many, I try not to waste my time telling people not to do something, but rather help them with the best way to do it to keep them safe. Let's all have fun doing all these wonderful things we are allowed to do. I will continue filming solo friends since because I am new and not comfortable doing more. Not because I heard it from many of you that believe I am to young in the sport to wear a camera. :)-Taylor "Can't plan fantastic!!!!!"

Taylor, It is good that you are mature enough to listen to those who know you at Elsinore. There are many very good cameraflyers who work there, who I respect. QuoteJust like any dangerous sport, I feel the final decision should be left to the one that is jumping, I hope you also include the people (or persons) who are also in the sky with the cameraflyer as people of consequence in the decision. So, if there is some 'annoyance' to hearing something over and over again, perhaps there are more than one experienced person saying the same thing? True, that a mentor (instructor) is very valuable in anything that could take your life easily. I would not attempt to rock climb without someone to 'show me the ropes'. livendive 8 #11 September 15, 2005 I thought Elsinore wanted to see 200 jumps before their jumpers strap on a camera. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
skysurfcam 0 #12 September 15, 2005 I read, re-read, and re-re-read this. Gawd help those that have no idea how much danger they're in. Not because I heard it from many of you that believe I am to young in the sport to wear a camera. :) Terrific. You're an experienced (Note the caps...) Big Wall climber. You're not an experienced skydiver. You are endangering yourself and your solo friends. Take the camera off, get some experience as a (Note the caps) Skydiver, and Pull Your Head In. Listen to yourself "I realize that jumping with a camera is dangerous when done incorrectly"" Fact is Jumping is dangerous. Jumping with a camera is more dangerous, and it isnt for novices, no matter what their skill level or ego. A novice jumping a camera is "doing it incorrectly.". Check the records for poeple going in whilst someones wearing a camera, it's a danger above and beyond skydiving. If the folk at your DZ are really encouraging you to jump camera with only 76 jumps, you need to find some more experienced folks... This may explain why you need to ask here for editing tips for the footage you have. C. Of course this may be and hopefuly is just a good troll... Brother Wayward's rule of the day... mysty429 0 #13 September 15, 2005 Sorry to make everyone so mad at me. I do have wonderful mentors at my home DZ and plan on learning a lot of great things about camera flying in the future. In the mean time I will continue to do solo and two ways jumps only with my mentors and friends as to not endanger any of you that may think me a terror of the air. I asked a simple question to start this thread and as usual with online threads, got blown away with good advice (whether it be liberal or conservative in nature). Thanks to you that offered good advice! Very excited to get back in the air this weekend, filming my fall. :)-Taylor "Can't plan fantastic!!!!!"
