Jumping 20D with flash

Recommended Posts

I want to start jumping with 550EX flash. 20D allows only 1/250 flash sync. Do you have any recommendations (settings etc ) to enable shooting quality pics?

thx,
m.

I usually set my flash to high speed sync (hold the + and - button in at the same time if I remember well)

Then it will sync up to any shutterspeed ( i usually shoot 1/500th under normal lighting conditions)

I've been doing th exact smae thig with pretty good results. I keep meaning to try and play around with the 2nd shutter curtain syncronization but haven't got around to it.

I don't mean to "thread jack" but has anyone tried reading this tried that?

Yes, and it rocks. As for skydiving, not sure how it would be of any use. You need a slower shutter speed to get the effect cuz the flash fires at the end of the shutter closing. I took these of my kid with a shutter speed of around 1/20th and he was spazzing like kids do. Pretty cool effect.
my pics & stuff!

These were taken this weekend in Texel when we got weathered out and went gokarting instead. It was an indoor track, with poor lighting. I was using a 20D. I set the camera to meter for ambient lighting, giving shutter times varying from 1/30th up to over a second. I tracked with the subjects as best I could (remember, the eyepiece goes blank while the shutter is open). I then used the built in flash (don't have an external yet) set to second-curtain sync. Lots of shots were just a mess of light and movement (yay digital! delete delete delete) But some came out good - I quite like the arty speedy effect.
