Fast 0 #2 September 20, 2005 This site seems to have a lot of info about it. I haven't tried any of the methods listed there though. I guess its a good starting point for reasearching the topic. mnealtx 0 #3 September 21, 2005 Could be saliva, if you've ever blown into the camera. Could be liquid from a can of compressed air, if you've ever used that. It also could indeed be dust on the sensor. The first thing I'd try is blowing the dust off with bulb blower. This site has some good information about cleaning your sensor, if need be.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706

Well, it's not an airtight seal...dust CAN get in there...Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
jont 0 #6 September 21, 2005 Thanks for the postings, guys. Following my own online research, and lot of good PM advice from CTSkydiver, I have just gone out and bought some Sensor Swabs and a bottle of Eclipse. Am very nervous about this, but it has to be done. Won't have time now til friday night, so I'll report back on how it goes. Re: where the dust comes from. Not only are the joints not airtight, but every time you go up to altitude the pressure drops and air will come out of the gap between lens and body. And in freefall the pressure will increase quickly, and air will be pumped back in. However, the marks I have are not dust. They are almost certainly water. We sat in a very cold plane for almost an hour flying from Old Buckenham to Texel before jumping in. On landing, my video camera went straight into condensation error mode. I don't think the stills camera reports such problems, but I have little doubt condensation must have formed in there too. So I'm guessing the marks on the sensor are where the droplets dried out. Anyway, I'll let you know if I manage not to poke the swab through the sensor! cheers jon t
mnealtx 0 #7 September 21, 2005 remember - less is more, with the cleaner. I believe the instructions say 1 or 2 drops on the swab, if I remember right. There's a thread out there where a guy used too much cleaner on the swab and got some between the sensor itself and the anti-aliasing filter (what you'll actually be cleaning), so be careful!Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. Anyone seen anything like that before? Suggestions for cleaning? If the images are taken with a large aperture, f4-f5.6 , dust will show up as round splotches as you describe. Try to take a picture of blue skies with aperture f22 and see if it looks more like dust. I actually use Scotch Magic Tape to remove dust from the sensor on my camera. Works for me... Check this link before you try it! http://www.swiftgemsflame.co.uk/en-us/dept_4.html Good luck! AtleSee what I'm saying? Thats what I'm saying! What am I saying? I DON'T KNOW!! jont 0 #9 September 23, 2005 OK, Operation Swab it now completed! Pretty successful. I actually used three swabs in the end, because I was so scared I was too gentle the first 2 times and acheived nothing. But the instructions on the Swab box say "moderate pressure", so I tried again with a little more pressure, and the results are pretty good. No marks left to the naked eye. One small faint splotch left on blank images if I blow them up real big, but I think it won't show on real shots. Phew! Many thanks again to all who volunteered advice and support. blue skies jon t
