andyflylife 0 #1 September 20, 2005 Considering buying the Hc42 as my first camera after much browsing!! Just wondered if anyone knows.. Can you just watch your footage on tv without connecting to the docking station?(ie AV socket on camera?) And also, does it have the all important Lanc socket? jmidgley 0 #3 September 20, 2005 Hi AV socket on the camera, behind a flap on the right hand side; next to the LANC socket, in fact. Power socket too, on the back of the camera. Puck only required for firewire. The AV socket is a mini-D-shaped thing that must be used by other Sonys; I've found the right plug hanging off TVs at DZs where there are no other HC42s. pcalandra 0 #6 September 21, 2005 The HC-42 is a good camera for the money. The docking station isn't really a problem once you get used to it, it's just one more thing to carry around, The nice thing is that for firewire it's passive meaning you don't need to connect the AC adapter to it. The only real negative in my opinion is the lack of an external mic input. Pat

StevePhelps 0 #8 September 28, 2005 My bad. I thought it said HC40 ... If they are similar I use a Bonehead "D-Box"
