The111 1 #1 September 27, 2005 I just got an Optik Illusion and a side/top mount d-box intended for the TRV 19/22/23, but it is also supposed to work for the HC90 camera I got. I have not assembled the camera/box/helmet yet, but I have held the box up to the helmet while on my head and I must admit the width is daunting. It is about 3 inches wide. Bonehead lists it as a top mount but says that it can also be side mounted. I have not jumped a camera yet and since I do mostly (99%) wingsuit jumps where I can't touch my risers immediately, the width of the box is even more daunting to me. I plan on getting some help with assembly and advice at the DZ this weekend, and I plan on jumping it first WITHOUT my wingsuit. However, I'm curious what others think about a 3 inch box. I know many people who jump boxes that are probably very close to this width and say they have no problems, but just looking at it in the mirror I have no idea how it could NOT get hit by the risers. I almost like the idea of a top mount better now, but some people dissuaded me from that early on, saying that is a "pro" thing and sidemount is a more "entry-level" thing. I've seen people get criticized for buying a FTP for their starter helmet, but it looks so much safer...www.WingsuitPhotos.com
dragon2 2 #2 September 27, 2005 Don't know about the entry level thing, but I've got a top-mounted TRV style camera which I also use for wingsuiting. I started out with a top mount, never did like sidemounts much. But the topmount is harder when wingsuiting, because of the resistance you get when turning your head. The first time I jumped my camera with ws I felt the suit wanting to follow my head around Although I suppose with a sidemount you have the problem of only being able to film from one side, because for the other you'd have to turn your head much more. If you're filming above or below the formation that wouldn't be a problem but for within I'll stick to my topmount! ciel bleu, Saskia
velocityphoto 0 #3 September 27, 2005 I have an illusion and put a large d-box on the side and didn't like it at all . I have 2 ftp's and work them most of the time .I put a clam shell on the illusion now days and its alot more friendly to jump now .Before my risors constantly were getting caught on the d-box while i was under canopy and it really sucked trying to swoop with it . my 2 cents!!!!!!!!!! A friend will bail you out of jail , a REAL friend will be sitting next to you in the cell slapping your hand saying "DUDE THAT WAS AWSUM " ................ The111 1 #4 September 28, 2005 Bumpity bump. Attached is a picture of me holding the d-box in place (it's not assembled yet). I've got PM's from 2 people saying they've used this setup with no problems, but found a few other people who do think it's too wide, and it still honestly looks huge to me. Just want to get all the opinions I can. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
PhreeZone 20 #5 September 28, 2005 Top mount the bitch. I have a PC series that I switched to a top mount after being a side mount user for 300+ video jumps and probally 100+ of those were Wingsuit video jumps. You will lose a few video angles on the looking to the side thing while flocking and the rudder effect sucks as you are learning the camera (and it kills a tad glide rate also) Bue it pissed me off all the time to be looking around and have the box hit a riser and keep me from looking to the left a lot.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

The111 1 #7 September 28, 2005 Yeh, I agree with the "top mount" crowd, but the reason I was still thinking about side mount was because I want to add stills at a later date. But then I saw this setup, so I think that is my new goal. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
