outlawphx 1 #1 October 14, 2005 I've read through all the archives, and I still have some questions. Does each size of Rawa have a different size shell, or do they just have different size liners? Specifically, I'm comparing the medium and large. I currently jump a medium bonehead mindwarp, which shares a shell with the large. My head measures 23" which is a size large, but I think because my head is narrow that the larger sizes don't work for me. When I baked my mindwarp, I compressed most of the padding on the front and rear and squeezed the helmet shell in, while the side padding didn't need to be compressed. I tried on a medium optik illusion, and it was way too wide and at the same time way to short in the front to back area. I tried on a large, and although it fit front to back, it was so wide it would rock side to side with almost no resistance. The other problem is it's so wide I wouldn't want to side mount anything. Does anyone know if the original optik fits more like the mindwarp than the optik illusion? I've also heard the FF2 is for wider heads as well. Anyone care to comment? LouDiamond 1 #2 October 14, 2005 QuoteDoes each size of Rawa have a different size shell, or do they just have different size liners? The liners on RAWA helmets are not like a Bonehead where you can pull the pieces off of the sides and shim it. The crown piece is the only piece that lifts up on the camera models for top mounting cameras. The Optik Illusion felt funny on my head at first too. It's a new feel with the way it closes and sits on your head. Mine didn't feel quite right at first but insted of baking it, I gave it some time to allow for the foam to compress and form to my head and I haven't had a problem since. Now it sits on my head tightly but not painfully so. I would say try the medium with the shims on the sides and allow for the front and back foam to compress a little before deciding if you need to bake it."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
Miami 0 #3 October 14, 2005 QuoteI've also heard the FF2 is for wider heads as well. Anyone care to comment? The fit of pretty much every FF2 I have seen has been pretty average, meaning not too wide and not too narrow. I know with mine to slip it on I must pull the sides apart and then when its on it sort of hugs my cheeks...it feels like it would not come off in freefall even if I left the chin cup off. PM me if you get a chance, if you're around eloy end of this month/beginning of Nov I may be able to get a helmet to you in your size to try on. Hope this helps...Miami

I like the hinge closure on the illusion, and it seems like a nice helmet for top mounting. It just seems with the width that a side mount would stick out an extra inch on it as compared to some other helmets. Maybe with baking, the shell would come in some. The forehead of the medium was painful, so maybe with baking it'd just end up really snug.

I'd like to try one on, as I emailed 2k composites and they said the shells are all the same size. They just have different liners. Other than the slickness of the enclosure, I like that it's flexible to change cameras with the same box.

I jump a side mount camera on a L platform and haven't had any issues in regard to width problems. That was one of my intial concerns too but after a few jumps and not having to change anything I am perfectly comfortable with it."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
Zenister 0 #7 October 14, 2005 FF2 will narrow the shell for you if you have a smaller face.. there are at least 2 at eloy like that now.. I've got a large RAWA but wear a Med Aviator so shell sizes are kind of confusing.. i'd definately recommend trying on several before ordering.. there are lots of both FF2 and RAWA at Eloy most weekends..____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. Anvilbrother 0 #9 October 16, 2005 I wear an 7 1/4 base ball hat, and the large rawa was too small for me. The XL is perfect. I wear a XL Z1 also. Postes r made from an iPad or iPhone. Spelling and gramhair mistakes guaranteed move along,
