Camera recommendation

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a camera for a fairly specific application.

I've had fairly good luck with small digital cameras mounted on the side of my rig or on my belly firing constantly, as fast as the thing can process the data. So far I've tried a Canon Powershot with an external lens, but a) the external lens is huge and b) I needed a mechanical kluge to hold the shutter release down.

So what I'm looking for is a camera that:

1) is tiny
2) does between 4 and 5mpixels
3) accepts an external lens adapter (or has a very wide stock lens)
4) will take a remote shutter release (either wired or IR)

Anyone have a recommendation?

You could try either a Sony DSC-V1 which is a 5 Megapixel or the Sony DSC-V3 which is a 7.2 Megapixel. They are adaptable to exteral lens. They also have a remote switch. The only problem I have ran into is the remote switch is a LANC controler. So it has a curcuit board in the switch. I was able to modify mine for a tongue switch but it is kind of a mouth full coming in a little smaller both ways then a protrac size wise.

I started using a sony DSC-v1 when it first came out in the spring of 2003...The current updated versions are now out. W 1 etc.
It takes very very nice shots... it's 5 mpixels
the remote is complex as pointed out, earlier in this thread....
BUT.. it gives you an amber indicator light when the unit is ON, ( think cam eye II ).. it lets your fire the shutter, one shot at a time or multiple shots... It has a rechargeable lithium battery, it does take a compatible sony wide angle lens, and it IS small...
drawbacks.... kinda slow, especially if the flash fires, and the wired remote which CAN be fished down a sleeve and clipped to your left hand,,, ( i wore it attached to the 'tubestow' part of my alti III),
is a bit clumsy.... I superglued a little plastic piece onto the shutter button which gave it a better feeling profile..... i am now using a Nikon D70s.. top mounted,,,, it has a plug-in wired remote which we configured to work by tongue switch, (stock conceptus)........I still can attach the V1 to my forehead mount,,, IF I wanna fire Both stills....
i also run a dcr-trv27 on top of a full BatRak....:)Attached are ..... 1st 5 sony V1...next 3 Nikon D70s
last 2 , sony again...
