New skydiving photography website

Hi,

I made a website to gather lots of high resolution skydiving photographies.

Photos are watermarked on the fly and there are many ways to browse through them (by rate, by discipline, author, ...)

http://www.skydiving-galleries.com

I you have remarks, please don't hesitate
John

I like the design of the site. However, I didn't even notice the copyright until I looked cery carefully and found it in corners. And you can easily copy the photos by right-clicking. Is this your intentions? You do say this on the site:

To avoid abusive use, all the pictures are automatically marked for copyright.

But seriously, to avoid abusive use, the copyright should be plastered huge ove the whole image, like a watermark. Anyone can copy and use the "high resolution" photos that are posted on there. Which, if that's your intentions, ok then. I hope those posting photos understand they could be taken and misused by people like SkyRide. But as a professional photographer, I certainly wouldn't post any photos on your site.
I do really like the design of the site though.

And, some of us appreciate that there are non-professionals out there who would post awesome photos for the world to share and download for non-commercial use...

Screw skyride, if the world of skydivers won't share photos in fears that they will be used by someone like Skyride, then Skyride won, and we all lost.

Skydivingmovies.com is my favorite website, and I freely uploaded a video that took me about a labor week of taping and editing, and now is actually one of the highest rated and most downloaded videos of the site... Friends asked me, "why did you not sell it?" I did it for the love of skydiving and wanted to share with friends... I could have made a buck, but that is not my thing... If I had stills, I would upload them here for sure.

I think the owner of www.skydiving-galleries.com is awesome! I would almost pay for one of those picture frames that has digital images that could rotate thru the site's photos for my desk at the office...

Just my two cents. This site is cool... And, I would, if I had a camera, post pictures without a watermark at all...

Lew, I understand you are trying to make a living as a photographer, and I support you 100%, so if you never post a photo, I am ok with that... But, for those of us who are not that good, or just want to share, I think this site is cool.

Well done mate you have done a great job of the site.

But I'm with Lew not posting any photos on your site. I have spend to much money to let people steal my work.

With that said, I'm looking forward to checking back and seeing everyones cool pics.

I understand your feeling, I did skydiving-galleries because I had friends of mine who wanted some website where they could easily upload their photos. It happens that the don't intend to sell them (or maybe occasionnaly)

The second reason I did the website is that I always looked after hi-res skydiving pictures on the internet to have a good looking wallpaper but never found any (only small bad quality pictures).

Most skydivers just want good looking photos. The only commercial use about skydiving photography (as far as I know) would be printing posters, tee shirts or use in advertisement. I did the website to allow someone who wants to make a commercial use of the photo to be able to easily contact the author to make a financial agreement.

Advertisement companies are intelligent enough not to steal a photography and risk an attack in justice. maybe I am just naive ;)

Hi,

I've followed the birth of SG for a while and helped as much as I could to get it released. I agree it can't be a gallery for photographers who want to sell their pictures. This is not the goal, I think SG must be "simply" seen as an airliners.net dedicated to skydiving.

Who would use as a wallpaper a picture with an enormous watermark over the image ? Nobody.. SG is here to help people find non-altered good quality skydiving pictures, that's all. I guess there is enough amateur photographers to help fill in the database :)
