Superman32 0 #1 November 23, 2005 Before the flamming starts, I'm not about to start jumping camera yet. I just spent thousands on a rig, so buying a camera is out. I'm just bored at work. The PC55 has been out for a season now, so is still considered bad for skydiving or has a the general consensus changed. I was also looking at the HC21,32 and 42. No much of a difference between them except that the HC21 does not have MPEG movie mode and does not take stills. Would you need the MPEG thing? You can't really find the old pc models very easily (even on ebay) and PC1000 is completely out due to price, so the HC seems to be the next best bet due to price and size. Cookie composites also has a clam type box that fits the HCs. Have you guys used your cam helmet for other activities, e.g. skiing or montain biking? Inveniam Viam aut Faciam I'm back biatches! Me and a friend wore ours to a go-cart track this weekend, with a bunch of other skydivers. Good times. EDIT: I can't find anything about the PC55 on the Sony page. riggerrob 643 #3 November 23, 2005 Last year I bought a Sony HC40 (predecessor to this year's HC42) and it is still going strong after 300 + Handy-Mount jumps. The primary reason I bought HC40 was its price ($300 less than PC109)and 1 mega-pixel CCD (same as PC109).

If you just want to shoot fun video on a budget, the 21 gives you pretty good bang for your buck. Quote Cookie composites also has a clam type box that fits the HCs. I have the hc42 mounted in a Cookie Black Box, and I am very pleased with the fit and easy access to the touch screen due to the side door on this box. It fits the camera like a carbon fiber glove and has a very slim outside profile
 AndyMan 7 #6 November 23, 2005 The PC55 always struck me as looking way too much like a toy to be taken seriously. i could be wrong, though. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
 Thanatos340 1 #7 November 23, 2005 I have been shopping around myself for a camera. It is my understanding (I could be wrong) that you cannot attach Wide angle (Or any other) Lens to a PC55 as there are no Threads. I considered all the others that you are Looking at and I think I have settled on the HC40. I have been told the HC40 does not require a Docking Station like to HC42 so that is one less thing I would have to carry around and the HC40 is about $70 cheaper for basically the same Camera otherwise. This is correct, also there is no LANC port on the pc-
 Superman32 0 #9 November 24, 2005 What about the MPEG thing? Inveniam Viam aut Faciam I'm back biatches!
 dunesurfer 0 #10 November 26, 2005 QuoteWhat about the MPEG thing? AFAIK, MPEG is only used to store video clips on the memory chips. PC55 has no slot for the memory chip, so no stills, no mpeg clips. If you need your video in MPEG, you can capture to a computer and convert it to MPEG, but with no LANC port and no threads for lens attachment the PC55 is not very well suited to skydiving use. Also, you would have to fabricate your own box or bracket for it.
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
