Digital Cameras- Alternative Method.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys on my hunt for a new digital camera for skydiving stills I have been plagued with the $$ factor.

I know we'd all love our Digi Rebel XTs with kits but its just not happening for me- since buying the helmet and camera are already on my list.

An instresting solution has been proposed to me that i dont know if anyone has had the chance of using- automatic picture taking.

Basically you set your digital camera to start taking pictures at 1 second intervals fully focused. Instead of snapping away pictures in freefall its all done for your.

The problems I see-

How do you turn the feature on-off?
Obviously pictures under canopy and in the airplane waste space and if thats not a problem- more importantly it wastes a lot of battery which could be very bad on back to back to back days.

Has anybody had any experince with this method? Because than we can completely forget about the whole remote issue. Just an idea.

It's not horrible is you're not trying to take photos of any specific point in time, but genrally in skydiving that -eactly- what we're trying to do.

In fact, even with being able to shoot at 3 frames per second on most digital cameras, there's a hell of a lot of stuff that happens between click and click.

The "better" solution (which doesn't exist yet) would be a camera that shoots 6 megapixel 30 fps video. Storage requirements would be huge, so that's not happening any time soon. HDTV doesn't -quite- cut it (pretty close though).

Maybe this will be a solution, if some one builds the camera. High storage - high through put....
Holographic disks coming soon.
