321Cya 0 #1 December 14, 2005 Hi All, Could someone perhaps explain the difference between a bite and a tongue switch? And what do you guys out there prefer? Bite, tongue or blow switch? cheers, J. www.vandrunen.ch
piisfish 140 #2 December 14, 2005 I think bite is the easiest to use, but maybe not the most precise... After that it depends on your blowing abilities or how you can use your tongue Blaise Chappuis www.hookturn.net/blazi uses a hand switch...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
321Cya 0 #3 December 14, 2005 As I will use it lots for BASE I will definitely want to keep my hands free. A hand switch is out of the question........that's just my personal feeling! cheers, J. www.vandrunen.ch
skydog 2 #4 December 14, 2005 Personally I prefer the tongue switch. Have tried both, but the tongue just "feels" more comfortable to me. I think it is a matter of opinion as both work as well as each other. BrynJourney not destination.....
piisfish 140 #5 December 14, 2005 needs some coordination www.hookturn.net/blazi/Pierrotletemps.jpg but can be done. Check the switch in the left hand. I understand your concern though....scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

diablopilot 2 #7 December 15, 2005 For me the problem of a bite switch is that the "off" position is usually holding your mouth open. Kinda hard to do when wearing a full face, or chin cup helmet that is suposed to fit tightly. Blow switches can ggunked up and have less fine control over when a shot is being taken or repeat shots. Toung switches are my second favorite, easy to use and know when you're taking a shot. Hand switches are the best for me when I don't have to worry about having a hand occupied.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. skydog 2 #8 December 15, 2005 Here is the one I use: http://conceptusinc.com/tongueswitch.htm If you look on the site you will see the comparison with the bite switch. I also like them because I can ratchet down my FTP and not worry about opening my jaw to bite down on the switch. BrynJourney not destination..... ltdiver 3 #10 December 15, 2005 To add to what JP already said, I switched from a bite switch to a tongue switch mainly because when I would bite down on a bite switch it would bob my video camera framing up and down (I was using a camera helmet with a chin cup). I didn't like that less than quality footage, so switched to something smoother. No need to constantly open and shut the teeth with a tongue switch. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

eUrNiCc 0 #12 December 15, 2005 I'd definately recommend the tounge switch for BASE purposes. I believe that you can take pictures faster by flicking your tounge repeatedly (but then I have some practice ,) than by biting. Also, it's hard to hold your mouth open through your average BASE opening, so you'll probably end up taking a picture on every opening with a bite switch.Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age. I once rode in a canopy too low while fixing a knottish mess of unstowed breaklines, toggles, triple risers and the drawstrings of my slider. I was wearing my camera helmet with just a photo camera with biteswitch. I probably should've chopped but didn't and ended up having to PLF the landing. Turns out I made a couple interesting shots of blurry-grass-at-an-angle while rolling over my shoulder ciel bleu, Saskia

321Cya 0 #15 December 15, 2005 Looks like I will go and try the tongue switch first. Have had enough pratice there as well... Thanks for the info guys. J. www.vandrunen.ch
mccordia 74 #16 December 15, 2005 your GF wil also quite like the tongue-switch option in the long-run I used a tongue switch but now prefer bite and blow switch, because (for me) I manage to get more pictures in per jump, and they have more of a 'click' action/feel. Where with the tongue switch, I had a hard time 'feeling' if I actualy took the picture...JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
NSEMN8R 0 #17 December 15, 2005 I like using tongue switches best, but they seem to break a lot more often than the others. I kept getting little holes in the membrane allowing moisture in there and it messes them up. I went through 4 of them last season. Conceptus is great about it when they break. They will replace it for free, but they won't send the new one until the you send them the broken one so you're going to be without a switch for a week. If you're going to go with a tongue switch you should probably buy two of them so you have one to use while the other is being shipped.
321Cya 0 #18 December 15, 2005 Jarno, You say that you get more pictures in a jump with a bite/blow switch. In BASE, where there's generally only a short amount of time, you would assume that those are better for that purpose then? Correct me if I'm wrong. If you give one continuous blow for a certain amount of time can you set the camera so that it will take pictures for as long as you blow, or does it have to be done in 'pulses'? cheers, Joris. www.vandrunen.ch
piisfish 140 #19 December 15, 2005 that's the easy thing with the bite switch... keep on biting.... on my 1st photo jump on a RW did 100 pics . just felt I HAD to try the capacity of the camera scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

CrazyL 0 #21 December 16, 2005 Like tongue. Because i can hold the switch housing with my teeth, smile laugh and scream, and depress the switch with my tongue at any given moment. Some tongue switches work better than others of the same make.
321Cya 0 #22 December 16, 2005 Quote keep on biting.... Ok, but the question is.... Do you have to bite bite bite bite etc., or one bite and 'hold' it? Same I meant for the blowswitch. Is it blow blow blow, or can you give one blow for a certain amount of time and it will do click click click? J. www.vandrunen.ch
