CamEye II and Sony PC350 question

Recommended Posts

is the current version of CamEye II compatible in 100% with Sony PC350?
- does power-off work?
- does power-on work?

I am ordering a camera box and want to know if the box needs a hole over the on-off switch or could be completly closed.

The Cam Eye II has never had the ability to turn a camera on or off. The cam-eye only has the ability to turn a camera from stand-by to record mode. That's the same functionality as hitting the record button at the back of the camera.

It's a bad idea to turn the power on on the ground, as when the camera is turned on in stand by mode the heads spin up. Leave your camera in stand by mode and you'll quickly kill your battery.

Most jumpers I know do not use the Cam-eye record button.

Me? I turn on my camera when the "door" light goes on, and hit the record button just before exit. I turn my camera off using the main switch right after opening, unless I want to film canopies or landings.

I use the Cam-eye only as an indicator.

actually holding the cameye II for a few seconds will turn the camera off (atleast the newer Sonys) ... I turn mine on at the beginning of the day and leave it on (with the switch) and control power from the cameye the rest of the day.

Ohh yea, I jump a PC350, it works just fine, everything. ;)

I'll just reiterate what Nate already said as he is entirely correct. While the camera is in standby mode hold the cameye button down until you get a rapidly flashing light (different color depending on which model cameye you have) then release the button and the camera shuts off. Tap the record button once to power the camera back up, then tap it again to start recording.

Expensive tool....for that job
Cheaper to ask your 'buddy' behind you if the light is on, if you at all doubt your manual dexterity.

And the Camera is easily switched off via the cameye using the method already posted.....

Cameye instructions tell you it's bad juju to insert or remove the device from the LANC port with the camera powered up. So, unless you plan on keeping your Cameye permanently attached to your camera (not practical with a most setups), you'll be unplugging it.

If you're like a lot of folks that tape or otherwise attach the Cameye to your helmet, you'll need to mount the camera before plugging the Cameye into the LANC port. After that, you'll need to turn on the camera with the switch mounted on the body before the Cameye will be useful for on/off & record/standby functions. BTW, the Cameye II can do both.
