Velopilot 0 #1 February 19, 2006 I've got a little over 400 camera jumps and I'm looking to go digital with a $1,500 budget. I've worked with the Canon 20D a couple times and like it a lot. The only other digital SLR I've worked with is a Canon Rebel. Please post reasons why or why not to buy the 20D and your opinions on what you feel the best camera for 1500 bucks is. Thanks Ted

stratostar 5 #3 February 19, 2006 I like the 10 and 20 d's better then the rebel cuz the case is heaver duty IMHO, but the rebel is still a nice camera and weight is lighter then the 10 and 20d. I have only jumped a olympus N20e the 10d. The olympus E20n was a good camera but the remote sucks ass and the 10d I replaced it with would run circles around the E-20n. The 10d I loved it till I lost it on the last jump of last season. I got it from Ritz camera and have the ESP plan and I'm waiting for the replacement (no cost to me at all), from what I'm told they are sending me the 20d to replace it cuz they don't carry 10's any more.I would think you would be very happy with a 20d or a rebel xt. You also should look in to the ritz camera ESP it is well worth the money it cost to get it for the two years, and it is the best warranty you will find any where. I regret I didn't get for my lens as well. So you might want to price both the 20d and xt plus lens and warranty, I don't think you'll be able to get a 20d w/lens and ESP warranty and remote shutter control for 1500, but you might get all for 1500 going with a rebel XT. Hope this helps and good luck. ~ ~you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
dragon2 2 #4 February 19, 2006 I just got a Nikon D70S (as opposed to my D70) and I loooove it If you're not stuck on Canon because of lenses and stuff, this is a great camera for your budget. Velopilot 0 #5 February 20, 2006 Thanks for the replies so far guys. They have all been helpful. Im definitely not stuck on Canon. I'd like to know opinions on Nikon and other companies cameras that are equivalent to the D20. And if anyone is bias about Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc. let's hear why. Many other shots,,, much nicer.. but too large to meet size requirements here.... I'll convert some to smaller size,, this week...jmy a3914 d12122

Stumpy 284 #8 February 20, 2006 Wait till tomorrow as well.... there is potential for the announcement of a 20D replacement which may affect you in two ways 1. It may have some more features u want 2. It may make the 20D cheaper. Of course it may also be rumor mongering but we don't have to wait too long to find out!!!Never try to eat more than you can lift
jimmytavino 16 #9 February 20, 2006 It came with an 18 - 70 lens... seems fine to me... i don't have the flash yet, but expect I will soon... here are some other samples...

Bazair2air 0 #15 February 20, 2006 I have had a Canon 20D since Oct. It is awesome! If you get one, you won't regret it. I think the replacement he's talking about is the 5D. It's been out since Nov. but it's about $3,500.00. Have Fun! Baz
Velopilot 0 #16 February 20, 2006 Are you (or anybody else) using the stock lens. If so what are you results? If not what do you suggest?
pbla4024 0 #17 February 20, 2006 No sir. Announcement of 20D successor is expected for tomorrow. Rumors are it will be called 35D. Fido
Stumpy 284 #18 February 20, 2006 Correct. Thats what i have been reading anyway. I don't think i need the new one, i have just got my fingers crossed for some clearance price 20D's. The only thing that would make me get the new one is if it was a full frame CCD, but i don't think they would do that yet as it would destroy sales of the 5DNever try to eat more than you can lift
stratostar 5 #19 February 20, 2006 I have been using a sigma 20mm and loved till it when in on my 10d. ~you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

EDYDO 0 #21 February 21, 2006 Quote It looks like the major difference is that the 20Da is designed for astronomy shooting. That is correct. A major feature change is seeing the image live on the rear screen. That is important to astro-focusing and useless in skydiving, plus, it costs more. AndyMan 7 #22 February 21, 2006 I've put well over 500 jumps on my Digital Rebel, and am very happy with the results. Other people at my DZ have put over 1000 on the newer Digital Rebel XT and are also very happy with the results. The cameras have proven durable and reliable. I can't think of any freefall application that would require a more expensive camera. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
dragon2 2 #23 February 21, 2006 Quote I can't think of any freefall application that would require a more expensive camera. _Am Like I said before, during world team 2004 there were major error99 probs with 300D's (digi rebels). Duting the Dutch100 we had error99 probs with D10/D20. However for WT2006 there was one camerawoman with a 350D and it performed fine AFAIK, as did the D20's that were there. ciel bleu, Saskia
