Fire wire w/ HC32 question

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to fire wire footage from one camera to an HC32...and can't get it to work. Is there some trick I should know, or maybe can it not be done? I have the cam with footage on play and tried my camera on both play/edit and camera/record and neither way was it working.

Not sure, but a friend got a HC model # ? and said it will only send out the fire wire and won't take in the signal, one way only.
So maybe that is the same case here, try playing out on yours and taking in on the other camera.
You may want to look in the manual or on line and see if this is the case.

Well I've never used the HC32, but from this review it states "This means you can easily transfer video to and from the camera using a basic Firewire (IEEE 1394) cable."

So, in an attempt to comfort you, it SHOULD work. :P

Sorry I don't have a solution, but it's something else to try. If you figure it out be sure to post your finding

Well if you _know_ the cable is good, maybe one of the cameras has a bad FW port, have you tried other cameras? We had a PC9 at the DZ recently whose contacts were so worn out you couldn't get "link" with a FW cable so we used another cam to xfer vids.

Good point. Can you send video OUT to another camera? To your computer? Eliminate those possibilities.

Is there anyone that HAS an HC32 that you've done a fire wire with? Maybe?

I have an HC-32 but I don't think I've ever tried to do it... I usually just transfer video to my laptop. I'll try it though and see if it works.

HC32 instructions - checkout the trouble shooting pages at the end... http://www.starbatteries.com/starbattery/sodcmihacaow.html

Check your display is set to lcd and not V-out (in play/edit mode go PMenu>display)

What are you getting on the hc32 screen when you connect to the second camera?

Should work fine mate, My HC20 is pretty much the same camera.

Put one on play and the receiving camera on record. Select page 3 and the buttons are right there.

If it still won't work try another set of leads. The camera screen should show that the firewire is connected.

Sorry... I just copied a video from another Sony Camera using a firewire connected to each one.

I used a friends TRV-130 connected to my HC-32.

I had both cameras in Play/Edit Mode and as I qued the TRV the video showed on my camera.

To record video while in the play/edit mode I pressed the P-menu button at the bottom right (see p-menu.jpg)

On the next menu press the REC CTRL (REC-CTRL.JPG) Button (also in the bottom Right)

After that I Setup Qued the system by Pressing Play then Pause on the TRV camera then I started recording using the Record Start button in the lower Right hand corner of the (REC-CTRL.JPG).

If that doesn't work I'm not sure what you'll need to do...

OK...I'm a fricken RETARD and finally realized why I couldn't do it...I had it on the "easy handycam" setting, which doesn't allow any of the stuff you guys were talking about. Once I realized to take it off "eazy" I figured out everything! Thanks!

Everyone point and laugh :D

OK...so I know how it can do it now...I just can't get it to do it. When you guys say my camera should show that it knows the fire wire is plugged into it, what do you mean. Will a symbol pop up or something? I have it all set up, but nothing from the giving camera shows up on the taking camera. I'm hoping it's maybe the cable itself.
