Vickrey 0 #1 April 11, 2006 I have just started filming my jumps and am desperate need of a ringsight. However, after a new helmet, camera and mount my founds are very low and I wanted to know what a good yet affordable rightsight would be. Preferably under a hundred dollars? stratostar 5 #2 April 11, 2006 What kind of helmet are you using would help to tell you all the parts you need, but in short you can get the orange tinted ones and swivel pretty cheap, last time I got both for 45 bucks I think from sunshine factory. If have a side mount you made need an extended mounting post. ~you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
freefalle 0 #3 April 11, 2006 ok, since you have already started shooting video, well before you should be the best advise I can give you is take your camera helmet off put in in the closet and leave it there until you have about 120-150 more jumps. now that I said that, knowing full well that you are not going to take that advise lets talk about ring sites. You dont need one, you just think you do. Get a good pair of goggles, the kind that fit the same way every time you put them on, then go to walmart or what ever, and buy a pack of those paper reinforcers aka paper assholes. site your camers properly and put the paper asshole on you goggles. Your framing will be fine using this method. You dont Need a ringsite, unless you are shooting bigways or competition video or some other stuff its not really necessary. Ring sites can be snag hazzards and frankly and according to your profile your not ready for the risks of an entanglement with your camera helmet. Good luck, if you have questions feel free to ask. I couldn't agree more with this, except I would say you don't even need it for bigways or competition. I have seen world meets won with the paper asshole! What I don't understand is why people go to so much trouble to mount their camera's as cleanly as possible to prevent snags and then go and mount a ring site on the helmet. Put the money you save towards jumping and get some more experience before you think too much about video, there's no rush. You will do much better video when you are more relaxed and flying is more natural. Good luck.
