paulledden 0 #1 April 21, 2006 Can anyone advise me as to which of the Sony PC camcorders can be mounted on a flat top without any need for removal to access all functions. (I want DV in and out and LANC also and no docking stations) Thanks Red Kite NB I'm getting conflicting info from the various reviews I've been checking out hence 'ask the experts'!The probability of being observed is directly proportionate to the stupidity of your actions at the time! paulledden 0 #4 April 21, 2006 Not at all.....my knowledge of camera gear is minute. But for example..... Sony PC9 - cannot get the cassette out when it's top mounted. Sony PC106 - cannot get the battery out when it's top mounted. I'm scouring e-bay for a Sony PC that can be bolted on and will 'do everything' it can from that location. The information I'm getting back is forcing me to turn my back on some bargains! Regards PaulThe probability of being observed is directly proportionate to the stupidity of your actions at the time! PhreeZone 20 #5 April 21, 2006 ALL the Sony camera's are bottom loading. You have to remove them all off a top mount to change tapes.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

NSEMN8R 0 #7 April 21, 2006 I used to have an older Sony camera that you could change tapes and batteries on while top mounted. I think it was a PC7.
stratostar 5 #8 April 21, 2006 Why not do like the rest of us and mount a quick shoe of some type, (stroboframe, gold member, ect) And then you can remove the camera and change your tape with out having to realine it every time you remove it At least then you won't have to pass up those good deals. Or you could get a older trv that loads the tape from the side and would do what you want to do with out removing it (old school) And stay away from the PC7, the lanc sucks ass. ~you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

According to my memory HC1000 can be loaded while mounted on the top. I could be wrong though.. It is also very well suitable for a top mount.

davelepka 4 #11 April 21, 2006 Look at some of the older PC models. The PC 9 has a side opening tape door and a battery that slides off the side. You're not going to find an easy bolt on solution. Plan on some fabricating and customizing to get exactly what you want.

shropshire 0 #17 April 22, 2006 Not so.. my PC100 is side loading and the battery is on the other side.. So if monted using the bottom mount, both tape and battery can be changed. It also has LANC. ScottyInAus 0 #18 April 23, 2006 No need to change the battery because you can use the port at the back of the PC1000 to charge it. BUT there is no Firewire on the camera itself, only on the dock. Cheers, Jason.
shropshire 0 #19 April 23, 2006 My PC100 doesn't use a dock. The LANC & Firewire (DV in/out) are on the front, under the lens. (.)Y(.) Chivalry is not dead; it only sleeps for want of work to do. - Jerome K Jerome
