premeire computer sharing

question:

I just got a laptop (LT)and I now have my DESKTOP(DT)and my LT network linked. is there a way to work on an existing PREMEIRE project on my laptop?

I installed it on my LT and I figured I could basically use it as a remote computer and edit while I relax on the couch. It doesn't seem to work.
I would have to map all of the clip again. I'm afriad if I do that I would fuck up the project on my DT.

anyone have any clue?
I am accessing the hardrive fomr my desktop and all the file are there. shouldn't I be able to work with in the project?

JT, when you are working off the main box, you will be rerendering all the files on the second box again unless you have network drive shares set up and stuff.

Why can't you get the remote desktop to work?

I haven't hooked up my laptop and my pc yet, but I usually use an external harddrive. If you assign the same driveletter to it on both computers you can edit, render etc on both without having to re-map stuff.

In a network though, if the project is in the same folder as the files, or even on the same harddrive partition, it should work. If the files are on another partition or drive however then you probably have a driveletter problem.

I did find that sometimes Premiere loses a couple files when there're still where they're supposed to be, in that case, re-mapping shouldn't mess up your project.

Just a thought - never tried it -

Use netlink and set it up to control the DT. That means giving control to the LT from the DT.

Also, you might want to set the display to true color.

In that config you are doing all the processing on the DT and just viewing the screen with your LT - similar to a remote terminal server.

damn, what if the D drive on my LT is the dvd burner and the D rvie on my DT is the video drive.

I can't name it the same letter. and If I change the config on my DT will it fuck up all the mapping that was originaly there?

Like I said, if the project file and the video files are on the same drive then no problem, whatever the drive is called, as the mapping is relative. But if the project file and the video files are on separate drives which have different driveletters on both systems, then you need to fix that, because then the mapping becomes absolute.
