The111 1 #1 May 9, 2006 When I look through the viewfinder on my XT, I see a few black dots (tiny vertical lines actually) in the viewfinder. They do not appear on photographs though, so they cannot be on the lens or sensor, right? Any ideas? It's more of an annoyance/curiosity than anything else... I rarely even use the viewfinder since I usually use the camera for skydiving, but I was using it for some ground shots the other day and noticed this, and it really has thrown me for a loop.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
sdctlc 0 #2 May 9, 2006 I noted teh same thing on my XT the other month. Not on pics so I was not going to worry. I am thinking it is on the mirror up to the eyepeice and I am too lazy to clean it, though I really should to see if I am right.. Scott"He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" vdschoor 0 #3 May 9, 2006 there is probably dust on the little piece of glass that looks down on the mirror, or on the mirror itself. I'd recommend getting rid of it, since this will start floating around inside the camera and eventually end up on the sensor (and on your pics in that case) Iwan
Zee 0 #4 May 10, 2006 It's probably just some gook on the prism or on the inside of the viewfinder itself. It won't appear in any of the pictures since their only real purpose is to display an accurate "right side up" image in the view finder. Take it somewhere for professional cleaning - you probably don't want to venture inside the viewfinder yourself and it's usually not that expensive. AndyMan 7 #5 May 12, 2006 It could be in the viewfinder itself. I have a few on my Digital Rebel. I do periodically clean the mirror and the glass above it, and the specs don't go away. My local camera-geek store (Helix) told me dust in the viewfinder is pretty common, and if I didn't care about it they recomend leaving it there. Still, it's may be worthwhile to have a pro look at it, to see if that's what's going on. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Scott DONOT clean the mirror. the reflective surface on Camera mirros is onTOP of the glass not behind like normal mirrors and it VERY delicate and scrathes easily. If you need to do anything use a can of compressed dry air and blow it out with that. You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! Yet the manual specifically says not to use compressed air to clean dust in the camera. Insead you should use one of those blowers that you squeeze and air comes out...
