Shyandinnocent 0 #1 June 28, 2006 Just trying to get some idea of how many jumps people out there are putting on their cameras before they have to be replaced. I have a PC101, 4 years old, that I have put 800 jumps on and my boyfriend has put 200 handycam jumps on. The only problem I have had is that the LCD display doesn't turn on if I open the display to wide. (Am reluctant to have it serviced as these things tend to have more new problems when they come back). My boyfriend is on his 3rd camera, only got about 500 on each of the 2 first ones. Do you think there is a difference in wear and tear doing handycam, versus jumping your camera in a box? How many jumps do you budget on getting out of your camera when you buy a new one? Blue ones! IM It's never too late for a low turn!
mccordia 74 #2 June 28, 2006 With the camera inside a box I think it lives a lot longer. Most people I know that have put a 100 or more jumps on a camera thats side or top mounted without any protection/box, have moisture problems, and in case of side mounted camera's, even some broken parts due to riser slaps... I've put about 400 jumps on my PC8, and it's still working like it was the day I bought it (FF2 helmet)JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
PhreeZone 20 #3 June 28, 2006 I put about 500 on mine when it finally decided to go. Mine blew the circuit board that the batteries plug into to deliver power to the camera. Its about $125 for the repair part. May do it after I get a replacement camera to have a spare if needed.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Peej 0 #4 June 28, 2006 Knock on wood my PC109 hasn't died yet or had moisture problems. I've probably put about 300 on it mounted on the side of my Optik on a bracket. Only problem i've had was the air somehow moved a wire around inside and rubbed through the insulation causing the focus to malfunction. Since Sony had it tho there have been no problems, again knock on wood. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
stratostar 5 #5 June 28, 2006 I have a sony trv 525 that has always been top mounted with out a box or condom and has been jumped for 9+ years now with out any issues. I would say it would have a lot to do with how well you take care of your camera, when in use and when not in use. ~you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
Danger 0 #6 June 28, 2006 My PC109 has over 800 jumps, top mounted without a cover or box. No problems so far. Danger
scottswoops 0 #7 June 28, 2006 I put about 1000 jumps on my PC-100 before I had any glitches. I always had it in a Bonehead Clamshell. "Try not! Do, or do not.... there is no try." --Yoda
Fuzzy 0 #8 June 28, 2006 TRV17 has a minimum 800 (could be closer to 1000) jumps and just semi-retired it this spring, it still works and can go back on my helmet at any time. It was looked after, but wasn't I exactly gentle with it either. Replaced it with a PC1000. None of my cameras have ever been in a box. I really don't believe that some of these newer cameras are as robust as the older ones, so to be honest, I'm not expecting (although it would be nice) for the new one to stand up as well as my older ones. rhys 0 #9 June 29, 2006 1 did 1800+ jumps with my TRV18 it was (obviouly) top mounted and encased i did have to make use of the warrante 1time but it turned out someone had spilled some kind of sugary drink on it , the warrantee gu ws cool and still didn't charge me.I also droped it onto concrete from waist height a couple of times, That camera was the size of a toaster but stong as a tank! i now have a PC350 because i am filming freestyle i want to communicate and don't need a stills, rawas rock! I hope my PC350 lasts as long but i doubt it!"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
