Icon134 0 #1 July 11, 2006 Since there are people that seem to have all kinds of trouble resizing/Scaling images I thought I'd throw together a little tutorial to help y'all out... 1st go download The Gimp its powerful, its fast, and best of all its free... Once you do that follow the steps illistrated in the attached images... 1. I took a photo that was full res... from my Digital Rebel XT... (a picture of my Karma...) (see OriginalResolution.jpg it has a resolution of 3456x2304 pix) 2. now under the Image menu click on "Scale Image..." 3. this will open a dialogue... I usually set my images at around 700-800 pix wide for the long direction of the picture... don't worry about setting the other axis as long as they are linked (the little chain looking thing) the other axis will change as well... I find 750x500 is great for full res photos we have a good size now for (almost) everyone's viewing pleasure... (see NewSize.jpg) 4. Click ok... but we're not done yet... we still need to save it... click on "Save as..." in the file menu... in the save as dialogue change the filename and chose a location to save it... (be sure to include a ".jpg" on the end of the filename as that is how the Gimp determines what kind of file you want to have as an output...) I named my photo "KarmaPortEdit-small.jpg" 5. Click save and another dialogue will open... In this dialogue be sure the "Show Preview in image window" box is checked and adjust the quality such that it is as close to 100 KB as possible but not over... 6. Click Ok... and upload the image to the dz.com I hope this helps... and that I wasn't too confusing... I'm going to attach the remaining tutorial photos to the next post...
