LANC pressed on exit

Recommended Posts

I was shooting video when my helmet mounted LANC switch got pressed on exit turning off my video.

I'm not flying camera just shooting incidental video. Is this a common problem? I thought the switch seemed protected but obviously not enough. Any suggestions?

mmmm, yea, watch where you put your head.

This is just one small example of how adding a camera to you pumpkin changes the dynamics of a skydive. Theres alot to think about when flying with a camera, are you sure your ready for it? Have you had a cut away yet? Have you thought about complicated a cut away could be if it involved an entanglement with that camera you have mounted. Fill in your profile and give people some idea of how much experience you have. Good luck, and be safe.

I'm jumping an FFX, no ring sight and just doing what I usually do for now after taking advice from some cameramen. In the middle of an exit scrum it's tricky to avoid a repeat, I'm not back on the camera step. I guess I'll improvise some protection for now.

out of curiosity... how humid is it where you're at... over the weekend I had my HC-32 turn off while on the step of the Otter.

I noticed the blue standby light shortly after that and tapped my Cameye Button...

My Cameye button is on top of my Helmet (which is a RAWA) and I've never had it happen before.

I asked one of the more experienced camera flyers about it and he suggested that the humidity might have been what caused the thing to turn off...

I'm not saying that's the case here but... just that its a possibility.

More reasons not to have the switch... But then again I'm extremely biased! ;)

A few times, using a well positioned Cameye have I been able to bump the camera into REC while hanging to the strut of a Porter or while hanging on the camera step... :)
I know a decent camera guy isn't supposed to exit the plane without switching on his... camera! But let he who never forgot to cast the first warning light without rec button ;)

Maybe after a few more hundreds of jumps, routine settles and you don't forget anymore ??? but meanwhile I prefer to have the REC button at hand.

Hey, remember that funny thread?#20? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1435985

PS: I've got no affiliattion with the cameye people whatsoever
