snafuhere 0 #1 July 19, 2006 ??? this is the price I got in one of the small foto shops in Orlando, FL (near by skyventure) How is that possible that a lens sold by on-line shops for around $650-$700 is offered in real shop for $399 ??? is it fake? is anything wrong about the lens? should I buy one? any knowledgable answers highly appreciated https://www.facebook.com/1skydive/
The111 1 #2 July 19, 2006 I am sitting about a mile away from Skyventure right now. I'm sure the answer to your question depends on the answer to this one - which shop? I want that lens and for that price would buy it now, but as I said in a recent thread, if the price sounds too good to be true, it usually is.www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Let us know if it is legit! You might get a number of people sending you money tomake a trip to the shop.... Scott"He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" jdfreefly 1 #5 July 20, 2006 I have that lens, and my advice is, get one of the smaller lighter ones unless you are really experienced and know that is definitely the lens you want. It's big and heavy, and I've rarely needed the full wide angle. If they are selling it that cheap, there is most likely something wrong with it. Methane Freefly - got stink? Actually, in the research I've done, I found that lens to be very light (comparatively), lighter than every other zoom lens I found and even many fixed lenses! It's spec weight is 385g, while most other lenses I found were 400-600g.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
jdfreefly 1 #7 July 20, 2006 I'm thinking of switching to this lens: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=12069&is=GREY&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation It's not much lighter, but it is over an inch smaller. eUrNiCc 0 #8 July 21, 2006 I have a fair number of jumps on my 10-22 and it is noticeably heavier and bulkier than the stock 18-55. I would recomend building some kind of cradle so that the opening G's are not all going right to the bayonette mount. I often use the lens @10mm for tandems and Freeflying, & about 14mm seems to work well for conventional RW. YMMVEgad, A BASE life defiles a bad age. The111 1 #9 July 21, 2006 Yeh, I actually made a little spreadsheet (bored at work) showing weight specs for a bunch of different lenses. ANYTHING is heavier than the cheapo 18-55 kit lens (which happens to be what I'm using right now). So I guess that is one advantage of the kit lens, besides price. It is very light. The 10-22 is almost twice the weight of the 18-55, but still pretty good in comparison to all the other higher-quality zoom and fixed lenses I looked at.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
pcalandra 0 #10 July 22, 2006 I'm pleased with my 10-22mm and with it top mounted the weight is hardly noticable, I don't have a cradle for the lens and haven't had any issues. although that sounds like a good recomendation. By the way I had the Sigma 18mm and this lens is far better in my humple opinion and I really like the ability to have some zoom range. Just started messing with manual focus and it seems like it's going to work out pretty well, although I've had really good results with auto.
