goobersnuftda 0 #1 August 18, 2006 I always forget to dig out my manual and on the ride up in the plane it always happens to me. Just what the heck is going on when my PC1000 with my Cam eye II sits in standby mode for too long. Nice blue lite then the Cam Eye starts blinking and flashing red and will not stop until I turn the camera off, then on again. I set my still for 30 min before auto shut off and I have no problem with that. I have even had my camera for normal hand shots outside my helmet and it doesn't care how long it is in standby mode. Quick glance through my manual and I didn't see anything that references this issue. Does anyone know more about whats going on? Thanks.
Costyn 1 #2 August 18, 2006 Apparently it's bad for the tape when the camera is too long on standby and the tape stays in one place with the write head spinning. So the camera, to protect the tape, shuts down. I don't remember the exact reason, it's in your manual. It should shut down even on the ground, perhaps those times that it didn't shut down is when there was no tape in it, which is one time when it will not automatically shut down. Do you turn your camera on before you board the plane? I have a simple rule that I turn the camera on when the door opens and set it to record when people start exiting, that way I won't forget and I have "queues" so to speak to remind me. Not that it is flawless, but it's the best I could come up with. FeFe 0 #3 August 18, 2006 Sony cams turn themselves off when on stand-by for 5 (or 3?) minutes to save batteries
dynamite 1 #4 August 18, 2006 I have the same issue too with the pc1000. The only remedy i've found is to only switch the camera on at 'door!' or to do a quick shot of the subject on run in. This has also happened to me on the ground waiting for those long tandem canopy descents and i've found that using the record button on the camera, rather than the cam-eye gets the camera going again.
