SMOOTH SLOW MOTION??

I just did this one using that technique, slowed down to 10%, considerably slower. IMO, quality is quite a bit smoother, but YMMV.

That looks smoother compared to the standard slowmo yea.
Even though (according to the method premiere uses to process its slowmo) it should look the same, there's definately a clearer picture here.
Might be the added frameblending premiere uses (on top of the splitting of fields) that adds some smudgy bits to the video when only using the basic slowmo? Definately something I'll play with a bit.

When you say slowed down to 10%, do you mean half the original speed. (as if shot at 60 fps) As thats what your clip looks like. It doesnt look like 10% of the original speed (making a one minute skydive last 10 minutes?)

I took the liberty of treating your posted .wmv with twixtor (I'll take it offline directly if you dont want it here, and otherwise will leave the video here for a few days if that ok with you?)

Combined with the (50%?) slowmo that was already on your clip, this is probably somewhere around 400 fps (if the footage was shot this way...)

There's a lot that can be done to up the quality (full-res interlaced input instead of 320x240 wmv, and creating a mask for the performer and background) but this kind of shows the nice smooth motion you can create with twixtor.

Damn... that's some pretty sweet slo-mo. Very impressive.

I'm well aware of Twixtor; it's one of the best resampling algorithms out there. I'd guess most folks don't have the tool, due to the cost and host requirements?
The opening shot is 10% of original speed, and then sped to 50% of the original.
I'd prefer that vid not be on YouTube, but don't have a problem with it being hosted on a private site as it currently is.

I didnt have any hostingspace, so I used the horrible you-tube. But no worries, the file has been removed..

And Twixtor, yea..its expensive, and can easely bring to slow your system onto its knees, its definately worth the money.

We use it in animation for some automated in-betweening in 2D animation, and use it a lot in the retiming of composited/fx footage.

But for the typical home-user its probably way more then he needs..but still amazing results that definately justify the price..
