sony dcr-hc96?

Does anyone have any info on the sony dcr-hc96 or dcr-hc96E I was looking to buy the pc1000 and found out the dcr-hc96 replaced it. Thanks!

The E model is the PAL version of the camera and will not work on NTSC TV's. It didn't "replace" the PC1000, but is the closest version to it still being made. Its an HC model with a single chip so the colors are not quite as vivid as the 3CMOS 1000 but its not bad at all and good enough for 99% of your skydiving needs.

Thanks for the info: Now i dont want to sound to stupid, are you referring the 3cmos100 as the pc1000 or is that another camera?

Yes, the PC1000 has 3 recording sensors and the HC's only have 1. The 3 allow for a much better color spectrum to be recorded.

I have an HC90 which is nearly identical to the HC96 (as Phree pointed out, neither have anything to do with the PC1000).

When I purchased my HC90 I had to choose between it and the PC1000. I read a LOT of reviews on non skydiving sites and found that the PC1000 had better colors but the HC90 had better low light performance. It was also cheaper.

Both are great cameras. Follow the link in my sig and watch the Puerto Rico video, that is 100% HC90 footage, although compressed for the web obviously, the color and lighting is still there.

You will almost definitely want to top mount this camera.

I picked up a PAL HC-96 for Worlds. It's a great camera - definitely a sharper image than I get with my PC-109. The top loading is very handy too. I had it side mounted; it's not that much wider than a PC model.

Thanks everyone, rawa doesn't have a mold yet for the hc96, and couldn't find a pc1000 new, so I went out and bought the hc90.

If you need a box, the Bonehead TRV 19/22/23 box will work for the HC90, though it is a little too wide so you will have to put some extra padding in it.

The111 thanks, But i should have mentioned that I also ordered a rawa helmet yesterday. its was an expensive day but i think i'll be happy once everything is put together. does anyone have this set up? if so how do you like it?

If they have an actual mold for the HC90 it should be good, most other companies don't make an HC90 box yet. I don't know anybody with a RAWA/HC90, but many people with RAWA's and other cameras who are happy.

The fact that the camera enclosure is integrated should help keep the camera from sticking out too far, like I said earlier it's a bit wide and in an external box that is too much for my preference.

i has the hc-96e and is happy for it besides a few things:

To set the focus you need to go in side the menu(meaning open the panel)

i need to bring this F#¤King docking station evrywere if i want to get a dub or any thing..

Its low lux funcktion sucks(not that it matter in skydive).

And they got another new plug to the analoug out/in

I were really sad as i smashed up my pc105e but as i start learning this cam i become more happy about it but it still has a few cons but the quallity is great i has to say..
