lilchief 1 #1 August 28, 2006 Hi all! I need a good camerasuit, but have never owned one before and know little about them. I need one, because of my fallrate . Have tried filming 2 and 3 ways and all I'm able to do is to fly on maximum brakes just to keep level. If i try to maneuver anything, I fall below the formation. So what are your tips to me? bring em on!! I was recomended Orugans' camerasuit because of good quality. But there isn't any info on the forum about them. If there's any articles that is only about camerasuits, I'd be glad to read."Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
quade 4 #2 August 28, 2006 A couple of minor articles here; http://futurecam.com/skydive.html I would STRONGLY recommend NOT actually flying camera until you can stay level and be anywhere you want to be around the formation first in a "normal" jumpsuit. The wings aren't there for average fall rate or positioning, but rather "quick" fall rate and positioning changes. You don't "ride" the brakes in your car (hopefully) and you shouldn't be riding the wings just to stay at a normal fall rate. Also, are the jump numbers in your profile correct? 100ish? That's still a bit early.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
AndyMan 7 #3 August 28, 2006 I'll echo what Quade says. Work on your freefall skills so that you master all the required fall-rates, then consider strapping on a camera, never mind wings. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
Dokeman 0 #4 August 28, 2006 mabey look into a regular baggyer jumpsuit with swoopcords. A camera suit is really only needed for jumping camera, hince the name.
The111 1 #5 August 28, 2006 Now that the serious advice has been given, I will add the following. I learned from reading this forum that if you are having problems staying with your subject, you can simply grab onto them. lilchief 1 #6 August 29, 2006 Get your point, and my plan was first to learn to fly my body, but because of my high fallrate(I've recorded 180mph at max) i was recomended to get wings. My jumpnumbers are 177, haven't updated my profile for a while "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no

lilchief 1 #8 August 29, 2006 My altitrack recorded 180mph True airspeed(160-165 in Skydiver airspeed). That was with my arms on my chest, but in regular box position it was approx 7mph slower. I was only wearing shorts and shoes during that jump."Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
Stumpy 284 #9 August 29, 2006 Shorts, shoes, a camera, 98 jumps and you can't stay with the formation? no way!! Seriously, don't wait for easter for a jumpsuit. Just a normal one will do fine, RW or Freefly. Don't get wings just yet.Never try to eat more than you can lift
lilchief 1 #10 August 29, 2006 you mean a normal jumpsuit? Have a FF suit that breaks me some, but still it's not enough. If you read one of my previous posts, 98 is not correct. it's 177 jumps. I wasen't filming when i did the highspeed jump, it was a normal funjump on a hot day..."Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
jimoke 0 #11 August 29, 2006 some people need wingsuits to fly with the rest of the puny humans. I am above 260lbs. exit weight. for some of us anvils, it really is an important piece of equipment. I can't understand the concept of a weight vest. plus or minus a few lbs. of lead? try being 60 to 100lbs. heavier than most other skydivers. it is challenging, try doing hot 4way while wearing a sigma. I'm not Fat.......i'm big boned. as for a relative newbie flying a camera suit. please relalize it takes several hundred jumps to learn to fly a wingsuit of any kind. i have seen a lot of newbs learning to fly birdsuits, which are much more restrictive. I have primarily jumped a camera suit since 164 jumps. don't feel like because you are flying a camera suit that you should complicate things and have to wear a camera too. concentrate on learning to fly your wingsuit. it will take a while before you actually learn how. please seek proper advice from your local cameradude. how to safely wear a camera suit. EP's and deployment procedures. I also have Ouragans first camera suit made. it was very expensive, but very worth it. very well made. Stay Safe, JimOkeThe ground always, remembers where you are! Icon134 0 #12 August 31, 2006 ok... since we've cleared up the not enough jump numbers issue... I figure I'll provide my two cents. I started jumping with a camera with about 190 jumps before i did so I spoke to local videographers, and others that regularly jumped with me... my initial jumps with a video camera were in a normal RW suit. (I have a reasonably average fall rate of around 110-130 mph on my belly) over the winter I constructed a camera bevsuit after getting advice from local videographers again on what size wings I should consider, etc... as for wings or no wings... I can fly without my wings... the wings are a very useful tool... they provide a much larger range of speeds to me. and... I'm always learning new things... and by no means am I an expert... Like others have said... you really need to talk to people you jump with... people on here can certainly tell you that Ouragan suits or Bev Camera suits are really well made and well worth the money but you really need to talk to people that know you to know the specifics of what you should actually have on the suit... these are things someone online can't effectively do.Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... Anubis_750 0 #13 October 4, 2006 Lilchief take your time. Reason being don't move too fast but I beleive that you have what it takes to become a camera flyer. To me numbers are eluisive. I travel to different DZ's and jumped with people who have way more jumps than I do. Some times, needless to say I was not impressed. I pick up tid bits from other jumpers. and make my own style. My instructor "The Great Jhall", (Golden Knight 2003 - present) instilled in me, "It's about quality, not quantity. I am trying to do the same but learning to fly my body better, I got the belly flying down, and I can fly with anybody, now working on the back flying, then wing suit, I am trying to set up some windtunnel time as well. Pay your dues, learn and when you are ready you will know, because someone who knows what they are doing will recpgnize you and mentory you along the way. P.S. My numbers are wrong on purpose
