new camera model reviews

Recommended Posts

I have searched the forum for quite a bit for "reviews" and opinions on cameras, but most seem to be about older models such as the PC line. I would be glad to possess one of these models but I have been burned very badly on ebay with high price purchases and I am leary to use it again. So I am looking at current models. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be much written about newer cameras here. Just bits a pieces. So am I creating this thread as a place to put your reviews. It would be nice to have a centralized location. Hell, maybe cameras should have their own section in 'Gear.' ;)

Could those who have recently bought a video camera give me your opinions? I have been looking mostly at Sony (HC line) and Canon but I am open to all.

And if there is some place to purchase older models without the hazards of ebay, I would be grateful.

GTA,

ITdiver posted this link to refurbished Sony cameras a while back, i think she had a similar experience to you on Ebay. See if there's anything that catches your eye...

Also, I just saw that the HC96 is what replaced the PC1000 in Sony's line. Anyone have a comparison? The PC1000 is 3-chip, while the HC96 is 1-chip. Is the difference noticable or is the technolgy advanced enough that the 1-chip is just as good as the 3-chip?

I have posted probably a couple dozen times about the differences between the HC2x, 3x, 4x, and 9x line, and about the small (but significant) differences from the 20->26, 32->36, 42->46, but NOT the 90->96 (LANC being removed). Also mentioned less than 10 days ago about the HC9x NOT replacing the PC1000, they were both running in parallel at the same time.

Here's a search, I just realized that wildcards work. Without the wildcard I couldn't find any of my old posts.

The short answer to your question is that neither is "as good" as the other. The HC9x has better low light performance, the PC1000 has better color. The differences are negligible, both produce very good video.

I had no idea that wildcards worked. Should have tried that.

Thanks.

It is not me that said the HC96 replaced the PC1000. It was multiple camera stores online. They all say that they don't sell the PC1000 anymore and to buy the HC96 instead. They may have sold concurrently, but the HC96 is now being pushed as the replacement.

Aw shite, i just remember her making the post when they had PC 1000's still, sorry it wasn't of more help. :)

That's LTdiver to you, sir. :|;)

Anywho, Sony has a special on right now for Sony Camcorder Trade-ins/Upgrade. Although I really don't like their current consumer (non-Pro) line, they'd do in a pinch for a newbie.

Interesting that their Refurbished cameras has run out of the PC/TRV models first....goes to show you there's some discriminating consumers out there....somewhere....;)

I thought the same thing.

In other news, I believe I may go with the HC90. And off of ebay...shudder....but they have some package deals with wide angle lenses and tripods and dv tapes and batteries, etc.
