bigway 4 #1 October 5, 2006 Please tell me what this is. I have a laptop that picks up wireless networks. I have just bought a wireless g router to take back to the uk... Will my laptop pick up the wireless signal or does it need a card? I am thinking that if my laptop picks up wireless networks that this is to mean my laptop has wireless g...would i be right in this assumption? Thanks. .Karnage Krew Gear Store . PhreeZone 20 #2 October 5, 2006 This should be in Bonfire... 802.11G is the protocol that is used for 54 meg wireless over X frequencies. Earlier verions of the protocol used either different frequencies or were slower. 802.11G and B equipment are pretty much interchangable except the B is only 11 meg a second instead of the 54 in the G version. Almost all hotspots are B or G versions. Other versions like the A did'nt really catch on and the newer versions like N or Q are not wide enough in useage to be seen in public hotspots yet.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
bigway 4 #3 October 5, 2006 Thank you. Though bonfire is a whole lot of talk about nothing thread while this forum seems to be a data base of knowledge when it comes to computers, cameras and video. I think this is the perfect forum for it, you get answers and not a whole lot of stupid jokes. Anyway, i get what you are saying and it seems that as this notebook is new it should run on my new router. Thanks. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
